Guest guest
http://www.mercola.com/2005/may/4/tea_cancer.htm Green Tea Wards Off Prostate Cancer Sadly, close to 30,000 men will die from prostate cancer in the United States each year. The best way to fight it is, of course, prevention. And one study discovered good news ... Compounds found in green tea may prevent the development of prostate cancer in men with a pre-cancerous condition called high-grade intraepithelial neoplasia (PIN). While previous studies have found that green tea catechins (GTCs), or pure EGCG, inhibited cancer cell growth in laboratory models, researchers strove further to determine whether catechins could prevent cancer in men. Cancer Yields to Green Tea Catechins The study involved 62 volunteers (aged 45-75): 32 men were given three 200mg tablets of GTCs for a year; the remaining men were given a placebo. Researchers found: * Only one man in the group who received GTCs developed prostate cancer -- a rate of only 3 percent. * Nine out of the remaining 30 who received a placebo developed the disease -- for the expected rate of 30 percent. Thus, the green tea compounds induced death in cancer cells, not normal cells, spurring Clusterin expression, the programmed cell death in the prostate. Interestingly, the 600 mg-per-day dosage of caffeine-free, total catechins (50 percent of which is EGCG) given to participants in the study is one or two times the amount of green tea consumed daily in China, where 10-20 cups a day is normal. Medical News Today April 20, 2005 Reuters April 19, 2005 Guest Comment by Dr. Larry Clapp: This Italian study that green tea is a major preventative for prostate cancer is indeed good news for men. In fact, it confirms years of clinical experience. Clearly, prevention is the best " cure " for prostate cancer, and prevention becomes more achievable with studies like this. We now know that cleansing of accumulated toxins, including dental and good nutrition such as Dr. Mercola's Total Health Program, combined with green tea, is a solid prevention program, especially if stress reduction and emotional clearing, such as the Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT) are part of the program. These are not difficult or expensive and can be achieved by anyone willing to take responsibility and incorporate minor changes into their lifestyle. In addition to green tea, though, you will want to consider the other approaches that are important elements of the comprehensive Total Health Program to preventing prostate cancer. These include: * Optimized vitamin D levels * Increased omega-3 oils * Regular sun exposure * Vegetable juice * PSA screening * Freshly ground flaxseeds * Vegetables * Tomato sauce * Low sugar consumption * Selenium Dr. Larry ClappDr. Larry Clapp is the author of bestselling Prostate Health in 90 Days Without Drugs or Surgery. When diagnosed with prostate cancer in 1990, Dr. Clapp made a firm decision to deflect falling victim to surgery, radiation or chemotherapy and instead focused on researching the self-healing alternatives to treating prostate cancer. During his seven years of intensive research, Dr. Clapp developed expertise in cleansing, nutritional healing, pH balancing, herbology, homeopathy, bodywork and energetic and spiritual healing. Combining the best of these healing arts, he developed a successful treatment program for prostate cancer, which he used to cure himself. He earned his J.D. degree at the University of Michigan Law School in 1963 and later obtained his Ph.D. at Galien University in London in 1996. Today, Dr. Clapp is cancer-free and uses his research to aid others in treating and curing their prostate cancer without succumbing to harmful drugs or surgery.
