Guest guest
Hello, My name is Tammy and I've been in this group for a while but this is my first post. I've had it with meds, prescriptions and over the counter. I've been slowly getting off all of them and replacing some with vitamins and herbs. I haven't found anything yet to help me go to sleep and stay asleep. I am weaning off tranqs and I need something that really works. Thanks, Tammy
Guest guest
Hello Tammy, My first thought is about you weaning off of the tranqs. I do not know which ones that you are on or how long you have been a member here and to what information you have read but I hope that you realize that weaning must be done with a very slow taper or you can get into trouble or damage yourself. I am assuming that it is probably a benzo, but for most psychotropic drugs it should be about the same. Are you a member of the benzo group at for support and education for people to taper off of benzos? There is also a website with a lot of information that also has an online group at http://www.benzo.org.uk run by an accidental benzo dependent guy. In tapering it can seem to be going ok, when in reality it may not if doing it too fast. There is a time lag between cutting the dosage until when the withdrawal really hits home. The person keeps cutting thinking that everything is OK, and when it catches up it can be too severe. The rule of thumb is to cut no more than 10% of the current dosage and to wait approximately 4 to 6 weeks before cutting 10% again of that current dosage, but each person is different biologically so each has to kind of learn their own bodies reaction, time to wait between cuts, etc. There are many links on our links page to benzo and other psychotropic drug information. Also some on our webite message boards. Do you have people in your life that will be supportive? Good luck, hang in there, we are here. Guest guest
Dear Tammy, First off I am not a doctor nor do I want to be one. I can only make suggestions about information that you will need to read and decide for yourself. Here are some thougts. The neurotransmitters in your brain have altered to compensate for the medicines that you have been taking. When you remove those medicines from going into your body the neurotransmitters have to readjust to balance out again. That is another reason to taper slowly as it gives your brain more time to rebalance and it is easier on the system. It can take quite some time to get them to rebalance again. It will help to take certain foods and supplements that would help give extra supplies of the basic building blocks to make those neurotransmitters again. There are also vitamins, herbs, amino acids, hormones, etc. that may help to rebalance the brain and to help to sleep, but I would need to know more about what meds you have been taking, for how long, etc and what you have done by tapering to date. take care, Frank , " tamm1232000 " <tammyco5@a...> wrote: > > > Hello, > My name is Tammy and I've been in this group for a while but this is my > first post.
