Guest guest
<<Contributing is one thing.. contradicting is quite another, this is a friendly list... people come for advice, help and knowledge. The person you just (injustly) accused of quoting from " whatever sources " really to my knowledge, has never done that. Instead, she researches and if necessary, re-researches before speaking at all. And she is " very well " educated,>> I was not making any accusations at all! It was my impression that some book or article was being quoted, containing statements from different unmentioned sources. (Now I wonder if Marilyn herself wrote the tidbits.) If we are presenting controversial information as facts then it is good to mention sources. There are definitely conflicting current opinions/theories about a number of the things that were mentioned in the tidbits. And there were a couple of logic problems. A particular opinion or theory is not a sacred cow. It is fine to contradict. This right is one of our guaranteed freedoms and it protects truth. If I say such-and-such is toxic (or fantastic) and you have some information or theory contrary to that, then you can share that. Then others can chime in with what they know about the subject. As more people share, a clearer picture emerges.... Lists like this exist for people to get together and do this. I did not intend to be disrespectful in any way. Nor do I feel I was. There is a huge difference between respectfully bringing up questions about something someone has put forward and attacking the person. I too research and re-research and am well-educated. (A teacher and practitioner in natural health field.) It seems to me that this describes many of the people on this list. All of us have an equal right to share information or put forth a theory about something. Michelle stated that she posted the tidbits to stimulate thought. I was stimulated and responded in a way I hoped would stimulate thought, too. -Not the kind that it stimulated above, though! My husband reminds me that it is too easy to read " tone " into Internet communications, that the writer did not intend. To think somebody had a certain " attitude " when they didn't, and get upset about it. I have come and gone from a number of lists, and am now receiving only two. I love this list for the information and also for the way I have seen the folks her interacting. Friendly and easy-going! Love and blessings to all, Shivani
Guest guest
Howdy folks, I'm trying to find the original posts this is referring to ..... and I haven't yet *LOL*, but I will What I DO want to say is that I personally think I have a great list full of great folks who have a lot of great info and shining personalities to share! Disagreements are great and questioning " facts and opinions " are great - just so long as it is done with respect - and I think we do that rather good job of that here for the most part The way to learn is to not just nodding and agreeing, but to pose questions, and to get replies and answers to those questions. In general discussion and debate are actually more the key to learning than agreement I just want to say thank you to Michelle, Marilyn, Shivani, and EVERYONE else here! Y'all make it a great list and make me a proud list mom for sure .. so smile folks - and keep expanding those minds (but don't let your heads swell ) *Smile* Chris (list mom) http://www.alittleolfactory.com SArjuna wrote: > > <<Contributing is one thing.. > contradicting is quite another, this is a friendly list... people come for > advice, help and knowledge. Guest guest
Yes it was I who made the post, and as I said before there is just too much information there to quote fully and cite all studies- I am not writing a thesis...at least not on this list!! The book I was qouting was " nourishing traditions " by sally fallon- all the items I quoted are there and the references are quoted... It is a wonderful book and has given me a different perspective to look at- Very interesting information in this book, very different from many " fad " diets out there...I connect most with trditional diets like ayurveda, and this book takes a closer look at traditional cultures and their nutrition and health compared to modern america... check it out Michelle > Michelle stated that she posted the tidbits to stimulate thought. Guest guest
This is interesting, as in the original post I stated where these quotes were coming from....no, Marilyn did not write them!!! > > It was my impression that some book or article was being quoted, > > containing statements from different unmentioned sources. Guest guest
Hi, No, " Marilyn herself " didn't write the tidbits; as stated in the original e-mail from Michelle, not only was the author noted, but also the name of the book it came from. (whew... !) There were no different sources, only one and it was mentioned by Michelle. Which is why I responded as I did to your e-mail saying that... since the source " was " listed, the author and book, not 'different unmentioned sources'. What I write myself, I sign my name to. And yes, I do believe I also said that this list was very friendly and helpful; also with sharing, as our list Mom has set a great example that others do follow. Best list around...........IMHO. Ok, Shivani, you tell me? How am I supposed to take your " Now I wonder if Marilyn herself didn't write the tidbits " comment? Friendly?
