Deonia Excellent point Deonia- Thank you so much. I used cocoa butter in the last batch. half the folks loved it, half hated the cocoa butter smell. I have also used apricot oil & sweet almond oil. One situation I keep coming up against is scenting it so that the shea, or cocoa butter or calendula oil does not override the eo. I did put some of Chris good Jasmine in mine. (Thanks Chris) This is what I played with yesterday. Illipe Butter Sal Butter Mango Butter Shea Butter Rosehip Seed Oil Emu Oil Apricot Kernel Oil Jojoba Oil Wheatgerm Oil Vitamin E Oil Soy Wax I liked some things about it but in my effort to seal in the good stuff it feels to waxy to me. Also the shea butter smell over took the eo. Back to the lab >

Deonia BTW, I heard from someone on some list that too much Shae will soak up the fragrance so that you can't discern it. maybe cut back on it a little and add more of something else. How about Neem or Hemp oil or maybe Meadowfoam ? Deonia

Shea should lose its scent almost totally when heated correctly. It holds heat for a long time and has to be cooled carefully (think of cooling soap). Don't mix the shea in when it is in liquid form either, mix it when it is gooey. It will also help if you mix your eos into the oil phase and then mix the fats into that when they are semi-solid, and then spoon into containers. Depends on your recipe if you can do this or not, sometimes you have to heat the oil with something else, so mixing eos into it wont work very well.
