Guest guest
Yes yes! I agree 100%! I forgot to even mention it, but diet is SO crucial, and most of the pet food on the market is made with, well, not such good stuff (to be VERY kind). Meat by-products are pretty nasty and not something fit for even pet consumption (consisting of everything from chicken beaks to pressure cooked cancer tumors) .... Nutro and Nature's Recipe are two VERY good brands of " conventional " market pet foods *Smile* Chris (list mom) http://www.alittleolfactory.com BubblesWithStyle wrote: > In a message dated 12/21/2001 10:32:36 AM Central Standard Time, > chrisziggy1 writes: > > > > ....... anyone have any > > > suggestions???? > > > > ARW, The first thing I would do is change his food! Guest guest
My dog had the same problems, too. It turns out she's allergic to chicken (also fleas). We switched her to IAMS lamb and rice and the problem has pretty much gone away. A fantastic website for info. with a mailing list is Wellpet. I've learned a lot. My Rosie suffered for years before a vet finally told me she was probably allergic to something in her diet. Everyone else wanted to treat with shots, etc....... to no avail. Any way, I changed her food to Naturo Max lamb and rice and she never had an itch again. Unless , of course, a flea was dumb enough to get on her. LOL She was allergic to flea saliva too!. She would run to me and sit there very still until I found it ! I now feed my other two dogs and three cats Holistic Solid Gold. NO preservatives and NO by-products . Guest guest
MM, well he was on Pedigree and that gave him gas that would clear a mansion...so I gave him puppy chow....he scratched with both kids..and unfortunately we can't afford the good stuff right now..=\... he goes to the vet on the 2nd...and maybe they'll have an idea...I can live with the biting his butt thing...but the licking his private area's till he whines horribley...well that's getting to be a bit too much...you say his name sternly and he stops the biting and licking all together...so who knows....I'll give you an update... on a sadder note, I hate to take spunkers to the pound yesterday...I'm still crying over it... she was my familure..my baby, my calmer... I had to take her because she got mad at my oldest daughter and murphy, and started peeing all over everything...and I mean everything...she got into the girls stuffed animal closet and let loose all over them...under the beds...on the beds...only Gabrielle's though...on the kitchen table, and even on the lid of the dog food container...I over looked a few incedents...but I just couldn't do it anymore...my only hope is that someone adopts her and that she doesn't get put to sleep..so if anyone that maybe close to bast can say a prayer and lite a candle that she get's adopted I would appreicate it..I feel so bad...I really do...but I couldn't get rid of the kids and the rest of the animals...although in all honest if I could I would...I loved that cat that much...but that's going a bit far... so anyway...I would appreicate it...and thanks again for the info on hot spots and whatnot... Bright Blessings to you and those you love, Autum Rain Wolf
Guest guest
Hi, I would put my money on the food allergy too. My dog Valentina did very well on Nature's Recipe until I couldn't get the lamb, rice and barley formula any more. I went to Pet Food Express and they suggested Premium Edge. Since you feed less of the premium foods it's really not that much more expensive and less than vet visits. Finding out what a dog is allergic is can be very, very pricey. If the food from Pet Food Express doesn't work out for your dog (I would give it two weeks) then they'll take it back. Solid Gold has as it's second ingridient millet and my has never eaten millet so I didn't swtich to it when it was suggested to me. I knew my dog could tolerate rice which is in the Premium Edge. It just depends on what your dog is allergic to. I can't even use my own soaps and shampoos on Valentina. Have to buy Mediclear from UPCO and it has pine tar in it. But it doesn't make her itch. She's allergic to dirt on her skin too ;o) How often are you bathing the pup? Frequent bathing can cause dry skin and itching.
