wow. thanks.

yes a word to the wise is sufficient. and interestingly enough, i think you

pegged this lady........on the money. how'd you do that?

oiy, wisdom. can't buy that. i wondered how people dispersed nitrogen.

i've heard of it, but never really given consideration.

back to the library for me!

thank you ~all! thanks chris for the ability to share the knowledge =)

Hey Larrae, Janet, other good folks,

If twas me, and I had to reply directly to the person who recommended

allowing EO to breath ... what I'd tell her would depend on whether I

thought she was a nice person with an inquiring mind who really wanted

to learn ... or smart aleck know-it-all. Sorta like I'd reply to

someone insisting that the Moon is made of green cheese. Sometimes it's

best to let them wander off till their ignorance gets them into

self-destruct.

The enemy of essential oils and human critters is light and oxygen! As

for EO, tis better to keep'em tight, outa the light, out of sight and

treat'em right. Which is pretty much what W.C. Fields said about human

critter younguns. The boy said, We oughta put'em in a barrel with a

knot hole when they're born .. feed'em through the knot hole till they

get to be around 13 or so, then plug the knot hole. ;-p

Essential Oils are not gourmet wines that need to " breathe " a bit before

serving ... and even with a gourmet wine, if the entire bottle is not

consumed in one sitting, the smart owner tops it off with a nitrogen

flush which is available from all good wine shops.

Nitrogen is heavier than oxygen .. it displaces oxygen and reduces the

chances of oxidation .. and it is harmless. Oxygen is the enemy of all

chemicals and human critters .. human critters need it but it cannot be

said to be totally harmless. Likewise, you can't find a good wine in a

clear bottle. That's because light breaks down the molecular structure

of all chemicals .. as it eventually does human critters ... we age.

All human critters need light and oxygen to survive .. but not so for

all chemicals. What is true is that light and oxygen causes chemicals

and human critters to deteriorate .. chemicals in isolation deteriorate

faster than those in a natural synergy .. like those in our body.

Back to the Nitrogen Flush .. it comes in a squirt can - you don't need

to use this for your small bottles .. but if you're into wholesale and

keep a large quantity of oils on hand, you need it ... and we use it in

my company. For small bottles, to reduce the oxidation caused by oxygen

lying in that dead space betwixt the top level of EO and top of the cap,

you can keep switching to smaller bottles .. or drop pure glass beads in

the bottle to raise the level of the oil .. thus reducing the oxygen.

Of course, you are protected from light (to a degree) by using colored

glass .. and there are degrees of protection there too. The ultimate in

protection comes from the Deep Violet Glass that is patented and ONLY

made by Miron - a Swiss company .. and I use Miron Violet for our retail

EO. There are a heck of a lot more expensive but they are worth the

expense. Check it out at http://www.miron.ch/wiss/research.htm

I would tell this person these facts and if I saw they weren't getting

through to them .. that they had already made up their mind and didn't

wanna be confused with facts (like the Young Living groupies are) then I

would just walk off and smile. In time, I'd hear the sound of their own

self-destruction.

Y'all keep smiling, Butch http://www.AV-AT.com
