Guest guest
Hi y'all. I don't remember all the details but I read last year that the Swedes or Swiss (not sure which) had started a program of study at one of the medical research institutes on laughter and/or humor and its direct impact on mental health and the healing process. I doubt if they are a bunch'a esoteric nuts and I reckon they know they're not chasing a cold trail. Attitude has a lot to do with healing and humor is an attitude for sure. In fact, there are loads of quotes from smart dudes and dudesses throughout history warning of the dangers of associating with humorless folks. Even a dumba$$ can be forgiven if they are humorous folks but intense dumbaSSes are not easy to take. I'm happy to see friendly folks laughing and joking in the midst of tawking soaping on this list. I enjoy reading this list more than any I'm a member of and that is totally due to the attitude and freedom of thought allowed by the List Mama and the personalities of the individual list members ... :-) Y'all keep smiling, Butch http://www.AV-AT.com Men will confess to treason, murder, arson, false teeth or a wig. How many of them will own up to a lack of humor? Frank Moore Colby, " The Colby Essays " . Humor is an affirmation of dignity, a declaration of man's superiority to all that befalls him. Romain Gary, " Promise at Dawn " . Humor brings insight and tolerance. Irony brings a deeper and less friendly understanding. Agnes Repplier, " In Pursuit of Laughter. " Humor is emotional chaos remembered in tranquility. James Thurber, in New York Post. The most wasted day of all is that in which we have not laughed. Sebastien Roch Nicholas Chamfort, " Maximes et pensees " . No man who has once heartily and wholly laughed can be altogether irreclaimably bad. Earl of Chesterfield, letter to his son, March 9, 1748 Even the gods love their jokes. Plato, " Cratylus " .
