Guest guest
I'm quite vocal, very honest, and a pretty good natured Pagan. Feel free > to ask me any questions. I'd like to first mention, in NO WAY do I mean to offend.........lol I've had a question since Halloween thats been bugging me, hope you (all) can give your opinions........with that said.......here goes! I've seen those witches on telephone poles, you know the ones that look like she was flying and ran into it? I think they are cute, kinda like a cartoon cute! Are you offended by those........or do you see the comical nature of them? I know they don't represent the wiccan-pagan religion at all.........but was wondering how one feels toward them. It seems in this 'political correct' day and age, the feelings of pagans-wiccans aren't being considered at Halloween.............or am I analyzing too much??????? LOLOL ps......I am not of your faith, however I find what I've read surprisingly contradictory to what I've been told. Hi Deb and all, I'm wiccan, and lucky enough to live in a community where I'm pretty much completely out of the broom closet - and I find the Halloween witches to be very funny. I put one up every year - but she's flying into a mock orange tree in my side yard instead of a telephone pole :-) Blessed Thanksgiving! Guest guest
Hiya Deb, I totally see the comical nature in those Halloween decorations .. and frankly (after having dealt with more Witches in my lifetime than you can shake a broom at ) nobody who calles themselves a Witch, especially for religious reasons, should be offended either .. WHY do I say that? Cause the creators of this new religion based on old beliefs didn't have to begin to call themselves specifically Witches if they didn't want all of the associations that come with that word - Wicca, the Craft Of The Wise Ones would have sufficed .. but a certain amount of shock value, attention and "coolness" came with the Witch part added to it Not necessarily a bad thing, but really one shouldn't get seriously offened when folks still use the word witch to describe a green hag on broom with snakes for hair either .... *Smile* Chris (list mom) Happy Thanksgiving! http://www.alittleolfactory.com I'd like to first mention, in NO WAY do I mean to offend.........lol I've had a question since Halloween thats been bugging me, hope you (all) can give your opinions........with that said.......here goes! Guest guest
Deb asked: > I'd like to first mention, in NO WAY do I mean to offend.........lol Not at all! I look at it like this: There is a LOT of bad stigma surrounding paganism. If I can answer a few questions and help a few people understand a little more, then I'm all for it! In fact, on my website I'm making a list of common questions. Would you all mind if I used some of the ones you're asking me? > I've seen those witches on telephone poles, you know the ones that look > like she was flying and ran into it? I think they are cute, kinda > like a cartoon cute! I haven't seen those! ROTFLMAO! > Are you offended by those........or do you see the comical nature of > them? Not at all! Now, there are some that will get their undies in a knot over something like that, but they are few and far between. Unfortunately, they're usually the most vocal-lol. > I know they don't represent the wiccan-pagan religion at > all.........but was wondering how one feels toward them. If I could find 'em, I'd hang 'em up! That sounds incredibly cute and funny! > It seems in > this 'political correct' day and age, the feelings of pagans-wiccans > aren't being considered at Halloween.............or am I analyzing too > much??????? LOLOL Mmmm...not really. Halloween is when most start to consider what Paganism is all about. If you don't know much or anything about it, it's a very scary thing. You see movies like " The Craft " and wonder if that's what we're all about, and I can understand that. It's taken me a long time to be able to announce myself as a Pagan and/or witch-there's a lotta stereotyping that goes with the " label " . I can only speak for myself really, but I get a kick out of what people do and say. I wear a very small, modest pentacle necklace with a crystal attached. The pentacle is about the size of a dime, and the crystal hangs off it. People have stared so hard at it they've walked into walls. LOL I don't make a note of drawing attention to myself, but I'm certainly not ashamed of who I am. > ps......I am not of your faith, however I find what I've read > surprisingly contradictory to what I've been told. For as many people there are, there are that many versions of ANY religion! Don't be afraid to ask questions. If I can't answer it, I'll find someone who can. Anyone is free to email me offlist, too-I hate to bombard the list with my chatter! AoB
