Have you read 'The Red Tent'? Amazing descriptions of midwives birthing babies in the vertical position, biblical times. A fabulous book.

Some of the things that western, male doctors have done over the years when it comes to pregnancy and birth are just amazing (amazingly stupid). What wonderful thought process brought such idiotic ideas about? Like giving birth laying on your back? Read one itsy bitsy book on anatomy and anyone can figure out why that doesn't work too well.
