Guest guest
I want to thank you all for the information and good thoughts. I love that there are so many sweet and caring people on this list. We made it through the night okay with another bath at 5am. He has a viral infection not bacterial so no antibiotics. I'm thankful for that. Doctor said that temp will only go up to 106 then stop can't go any higher and can't hurt him unless it is prolonged. Also found out that he might have a genetic predisposition to high fevers since I had them as a child. She also said that the convulsions associated with high fever are not painful and are not damaging. And I didn't have them so hopefully he won't either. I did ask her about the Echinacea. She smiled and said "I can't say I don't have that training." But she also said that she thought it was safe and to check the bottle for dose or if there wasn't one for a child under 2 (he will be 2 in February) 1/4 of adult dose would be fine. Because of a sore throat he wasn't drinking much at all. I was worried about that more than anything. Dr. said that a pain reliever would ease that and he will drink more. I did make a tea blend for him with chamomile and extra honey in it after we got home before giving him any Motrin and he said "YUM" and did drink more than he had been drinking of anything else. So now I guess we can only wait it out. And of course, both my husband and I have it also but not to the degree of Julian. Although, the way my husband acts, you'd think he was dying. I am tired and rambling so just want to convey that I am very glad to have this list as a resource and appreciate all of the quick replies as I was quite stressed at the time. The article on fevers helped me relax alittle. There really was a lot of great info and I will be checking out those books you recommended Chris. Sunny Mavor (one of the authors of the article I sent) developed the line and she is SO helpful if you e-mail her. I have sent so many folks to her and she is great! I highly recommend her book "Herbs, Kids and Health" as well as the book "Smart Medicine For A Healthier Child A-Z" by Zand, Walton and Rountree Hope the little one feels better!*Smile*Chris (list mom)http://www.alittleolfactory.comPeaceful wrote: Hi Chris, Thanks for the article, very informative. I really don't like giving him meds to get rid of a fever. I tried to let it go as long as I could but he was sooooo miserable. After I read that post of yours on vaccinations I was kind of disappointed that my son got his. It was a really hard decision to make with good points on both sides. Not sorry I did now that he has had a high fever to boost that immune system :-) I have always wondered about giving him Echinacea. I take it as soon as I feel something comming on and usually don't have any symtoms after that. Just need to find out how much is the right dose for children. Any suggestions on where to look? I'm going to go try to get some zzzz's while he's still sleeping. Thanks again. Guest guest
Hi Dawn, More good thoughts and caring coming your way - and we all know most hubby's act like they're dying when they sneeze - just the way it is! So glad that you really seem to have an understanding Doctor, it really helps a lot. And it "is" scary when they run a high fever - they're so miserable and you want so much to just "take it away for them". I remember.. though mine's 24 years old now!!!!!! Take care, make sure YOU get some rest too, you've got to be sooooooooo exhausted ( i remember that part too!) Hugs, Marilyn Peaceful wrote: I want to thank you all for the information and good thoughts. I love that there are so many sweet and caring people on this list.
