Guest guest
Hi Everyone, My son has a very high fever from 102 at noon to 105-104 now. I have him in the bath now and it seems to be cooling him off but all day it went down alittle and then went back up higher than it was before. Just wondering if anyone can tell me whatelse I could be doing to help him make it through the night til we see the doc in the morn? This is my first baby and the first time he has been this ill. Any help is appreciated, Dawn
Guest guest
Have you given him infant tylenol? If you prefer not to use meds, then the lukewarm (not cold) bath and dressing him lightly is all I can recommend. A fever is always the highest in the evening, goes down a little in the early morning. At least that's what my dad always told me Hugs to you and your little one Michele -- " Peaceful " <Peaceful Tue, 13 Nov 2001 23:54:34 -0500 Re: Help High Fever Hi Everyone, My son has a very high fever from 102 at noon to 105-104 now. Guest guest
Thanks Michele Gave him motrin. That and the bath seem to be working. He is sleeping now, a little restless but still sleeping. Fever went down to 101-102 (every time I take his temp with that Thermoscan it is not the same) after the bath. I'm sure that tuckered him out too! Thanks again, Dawn - Michele at Home Wednesday, November 14, 2001 12:10 AM Re: Help High Fever Have you given him infant tylenol? Guest guest
Hi Chris, Thanks for the article, very informative. I really don't like giving him meds to get rid of a fever. I tried to let it go as long as I could but he was sooooo miserable. After I read that post of yours on vaccinations I was kind of disappointed that my son got his. It was a really hard decision to make with good points on both sides. Not sorry I did now that he has had a high fever to boost that immune system :-) I have always wondered about giving him Echinacea. I take it as soon as I feel something comming on and usually don't have any symtoms after that. Just need to find out how much is the right dose for children. Any suggestions on where to look? I'm going to go try to get some zzzz's while he's still sleeping. Thanks again. Guest guest
Hi, My son, when little used to run high fevers (usually before he got an ear infection which he outgrew!) but I did the tepid bath as well as the tylenol - it helped. One thing my Doc told me that worked, this is kind of funny though- was to get in the care and DRIVE - I did it once out of desperation and his fever went down! I'd ask your Doc about the dose of echinacea for a child - you didn't mention his age...........or if your Doc is pro-herbal/alternative meds. If he is, then he'll help you. Good luck and please keep us up to date. Rest well, you'll need it. Hugs to you and the little one....... Marilyn Peaceful wrote: Hi Chris, Thanks for the article, very informative. Guest guest
Oh PLEASE dont do tylenol- youll have more illness later- the fever is GOOD! Give teas, chamomile(surface relieving diaphoretic),lemon balm, Yarrow,linden...these are all gentle herbs that will help the body do what it needs to do, bringing the fever down naturally. The diaphoretics "relieve the surface" by causing perspiration and moving the "pathogen"(if thats how you look at it)(or the cold/wind whatever) out before it reaches the deeper tissues. Guest guest
Echinacea is good before you have something- or right at first- I prefer the gentler herbs with kids- they work well...you can brew teas and put some good honey in there- fluids are KEY- the "danger" of a fever is dehydration... Guest guest
Herbs For Kids is a line of herbs specifically designed for children. Sunny Mavor (one of the authors of the article I sent) developed the line and she is SO helpful if you e-mail her. I have sent so many folks to her and she is great! I highly recommend her book "Herbs, Kids and Health" as well as the book "Smart Medicine For A Healthier Child A-Z" by Zand, Walton and Rountree Hope the little one feels better! *Smile* Chris (list mom) http://www.alittleolfactory.com Peaceful wrote: Message Hi Chris, Thanks for the article, very informative.
