Howdy folks,

This book is a MUST in the library of ANYONE who uses essential oils, volatile

oils, or plant extracts, especially if you ever use them on the skin. It

contains a wealth of valuable information! If you don't have this book, I

highly suggest you get it .. if you can't afford it, put it on the holiday

gift wish list ;)

Plant Aromatics has finally arrived from the printers/binders and eventhough I put it together myself, I must say it looks real good .. ;-pDue to initial setup costs (they were not small) first printing was only100 copies .. but I already had close to 50 folks waiting and I'll becontacting those folks today. I'm gonna give this list first shot atthe remaining copies of Plant Aromatics before I offer it to others -and I think this list will probably take the other copies ... ;-9Below is the background for those who might be new .. an explanation ofwhat it is and some info that was previously sent to the list. Those whoaren't new are aware that Plant Aromatics is one of THE two crediblereference pubs available on essential oils. I've also made some notesbetween the lines on previous posts .. below.Martin Watt has a number of publications out, and I have exclusivity onall of them for North and South America - but the one I speak of hereis, "Plant Aromatics, New Edition 2001, In-Depth Referenced Reports & Quick Reference Charts Covering: Effects on the Skin of AromaticExtracts: The entire set includes (in one bound copy):Skin IrritationSensitizationPhotosensitizationOral & Dermal Toxicity It goes into:Reactions to Individual ChemicalsTesting for Adverse EffectsSkin AbsorptionOils Not RecommendedAbsolute and Concrete ExtractsMaximum Levels of Oils in Perfumes/CosmeticsToxicity LevelsReferenced Adverse Effects on the SkinAnd many more subjectsThe entire set is a compilation of data researched over many years byMartin Watt, Cert. Phyt. Medical Herbalist & Essential Oil Educator. The primary source of this research was the R.I.F.M. (Research Institutefor Fragrance Materials) and their sister organisation the I.F.R.A.(International Fragrance Research Asso

ciation). These organizations collect safety data on essential oils in a number ofways: they gather scientific information and assess it, member companiesreport adverse reactions to materials to them, and if necessary, they inturn circulate warning notices to member companies. Finally, they have commissioned significant research evaluations forwell over 30 years, and have published their findings on essential oilsafety in the journal- Food and Chemicals Toxicity. So - you have a choice of going to the library and researching the backissues of Food and Chemicals Toxicity for the past 30 plus years, or ifyou are short on time, acquiring this reference set ... ;-pWhy does one need this set? Well .. I can think of three reasons.1. Ethics and Personal Safety: Why should we use an EO in a dilutionthat is larger than that which has been tested as being safe? We haveresponsibility to ensure those who use

our products - as well as ourselves, are not injured.2. Legal Liability: When we sell a product, we are considered as beingprofessionals .. like it or not, we then become liable for any harm wemight cause. Ignorance is no excuse for amateurs, much less an excusefor professionals. Will use of this safety data get you off the hook ifyou are hauled into court for a lawsuit? I don't know - but if one canquote solid safety data rather than standing there with their ignorancehanging out I would think they would be more likely to convince thosewho need convincing that they took reasonable and prudent care to do theright thing, made informed decisions using solid information, and wereconcerned about ensuring no harm was done. Intent can mean much and agood defense can't hurt - methinks.3. Professional Development and Knowledge: This cottage-industrythrives on ignorance and rumor .. the data contained in this pu

blicationis far more than rumor and is quotable as being scientifically sound.Off the subject for a minute. There are only two reference sets I haveever sold .. that is, keeping them in stock myself .. and these two areconsidered by ALL to be the two that we need if we don't have anythingelse. One is Plant Aromatics and the other is: Sylla Shepherd-Hanger's Aromatherapy Practitioner Reference Manual intwo volumes. This is for the novice and the expert as it tells you allyou need to know about each essential oil property ... each one has it'sown page and is broken out into headings like these twelve - incolumns: Botanical/Common Name - Plant Part - Family - Origin - Distill MethodSpecific BiochemicalsTraditional & Estoteric Uses Integumentary, Skin/Hair and NailsRespiratory Muscular & SkeletalCardiovascular and Lympahatic ImmuneDigestiveEndocrine Genito-Urinary and Repr

oductiveNervous/Brain/Mind Safety Data It's a VERY handy reference set and I use mine daily - keep them besidemy desk. It's not cheap but if one considers the information in it andcompares that information to a stack of the unreferenced novels out andabout - we will find it far less costly and far more valuable. You canreview and/or order it at http://www.AV-AT.com/manual01.htmlNow back to the subject of this post - Plant Aromatics:Whereas Sylla's reference set deals with therapeutic and esoteric use ofEOs, Martin Watt's Plant Aromatics deals with Toxicity, Irritation,Sensitization, Photo-Sensitization and other Safety Data .. and includesscientific references for the charts where percentages of dilution forvarious oils have been safety tested. This is a must for folks dealingwith EOs that will be placed on skin, and this in

cludes massage, perfume, cosmetics, soap or whatever. This is the reference set thatis now out in updated version - I published it and I have exclusivedistribution rights for North and South America. The old version that is out now is $75 .. the one I published is $43.90. It has more info and it is less costly because I am less greedy and bothMartin and I agreed that our intent is to get the word out and do alarge volume of sales .. my goal is to sell a few thousand copies thefirst year and I am confident of meeting that goal. For now, I will be the only one distributing this reference publication.I had planned for Chris to also distribute it but before I can even getcopies to her in Colorado, this first printing will be sold out. Also, and it's a bit premature to discuss this, I'll say that it looks likeAppalachian Valley Natural Products will be offering Anatolian Treasuresproducts from Colorado in the future .. an AVNP East and an AVNP West -and she'll have her hands full REAL SOON cause she's gotta travel toMaryland right after Christmas to observe the operation there and thengo back to Colorado to set up a carbon copy of that AVNP operation. ;-p

Right now, we're publishing the Revised Edition of Martin Watt's"Plant Aromatics" .. it'll be available in 7-10 days .. then we arepublishing something that will be a big surprise to lots people - avery valuable surprise. It'll be ready in 14-20 days .. ;-p

Took longer than the 7-10 days I quoted .. I just didn't realize thatAmerican businesses worked as slowly as Turkish businesses. Dangedbinders are sorta special and not something they keep on hand - so theyhad to order them out of New York.

Who is selling the revised edition? This is one that I haven'tgotten yet. Suspense is high on the big surprise also. Any cluesas to what it is? Sandi

For reasons mentioned above, just me on this first printing. I intendto offer this list first shot at the remaining copies, then the TLCSoaps List for next printing because they are all waiting for it ..finally, I'll offer it to the public. I'm making it real clear to thosewho sold the old edition that they gotta get hot to get rid of any ofthe older ($75) copies they have. That's not my call .. the fact thatthe new edition was coming out has been known to them for many monthsand Sylla had control of printing of the old edition.

The publisher of Plant Aromatics has exclusivity for North and SouthAmerica. The publisher is me ... ;-p Martin is handling it inEurope. I am gonna let one person sell it in Canada - and I might letone more person sell it it in the US - gal named Christine. ;-)

I intend to allow it to be sold by a distributor in Canada AFTER the 2ndprinting is sold out .. I think that is fair as I am the one sinking the$$ into this publication and the low price will basically mean that I'llbe allowing a Canadian distributor to offer it as a courtesy to buyersthere rather than it being a profitable venture for me.

Oh yea .. the old edition of Plant Aromatics is $75 .. the new, RevisedEdition is gonna be $42 ... ;-p I'm not greedy and like my oils, I dobelieve that low profit margins show up at the end of the year as muchhigher overall gross sales .. which equates to more overall profit. Ihave no doubt that this one will sell 2000 copies the first year.

Turned out to be a bit more than $42 .. that was my goal, butconsidering all the costs involved, royalties, etc., I'm just not ableto offer it for that price now.

As for the surprise .. can't give any hints now but I can GAR-AN-TEEthat everyone will want this one .. ;-)

On the surprise .. there might be a 60 day hold-up on that too and I'llexplain the reasons why in another post. There are some MAJOR changesgoing down in Appalachian Valley Natural Products .. all for the betterbut these changes are going to put me off track for a month or so.

Someone asked if there would be an update for folks who had previouslypurchased Martin Watt's "Plant Aromatics" Martin has already providedthe updates to the three people who previously sold Plant Aromatics ..Sylla Shepherd-Hanger, Marge Clark and Lynn Bozman (Canada).Martin advised them that the changes could/should be provided free, viaemail, to anyone who previously purchased "Plant Aromatics," but ifsomeone wanted the changes in a printed format, they would have to paybecause there are costs to printing. The new, revised edition of "Plant Aromatics" does contain somereferences not found in the older version. The file that will beprovided to those who purchased the old version DOES NOT contain the newreferences on the oils as that would have been too difficult to extract.I am not promoting the new, revised edition of "Plant Aromatics" ascontaining significant amounts of new in

formation on the oilsthemselves.I'm not recommending folks having the old edition buy the new one. Iwill say that the new, revised edition has a bit more information thanthe old edition and it is much cheaper than the old edition.

So .. there it is. If you want a copy lemme know fast cause it's firstcome ... first served. If you are an established AVNP customer, I haveyour address and CC info ... if not, you should be ;-p and you can justsend me an email .. and make it work faster by using my Secure Serverfor the Credit Card info https://ladon.safe-order.net/av-at/securepay.shtmlTell me where to ship it and how you want it shipped - shipping optionswithin the USA are US Postal Slow Boat to China .. $2.27 - or US PostalPriority Mail .. $3.95. For outside the US, shipping charges are thesame as with all my products, ACTUAL COST .. there are no handling orother Mickey Mouse charges. Also, I think there are no taxes in mostcountries on printed materials. There it is y'all ... keep smiling, Butch http://www.AV-AT.com
