MIL has had it since July its been misdiagnosed for months and shes been miserable othe meds she has keeps her from sleeping. She is not very comfortable with my natural treatments but i have 2 bil's that promise to help talk he into trying any safe idea i find. Can she do a tea tree mouth rinse? Guest guest
Thrush is a yeast infection in the mouth. So any treatment for yeast infections will help. Brush a lot! Use antiseptic mouthwash, eat garlic, gargle with warm salt water. Other than that, I don't know too much. Brushing with some baking soda would help too. And dentures are notorious for being breeding grounds for all sorts of yucky stuff if they don't fit right. Clean them as often and as much as possible. You might tell her that if it goes on long enough it can permanently affect her tongue, throat, and gums. Extremely progressed infections in the mouth can lead to rotting flesh and puss leaking mouth ulcers (enough motivation to make anyone brush I would think). Guest guest
I'd use a very weak dilution of Tea Tree perhaps blended with Myrrh and Lavender. (It's a fungal problem and these three will attack it from different angles) It'll taste pretty awful I expect! Also get her to eat plenty of live yoghurt. If it is caused by her ill fitting dentures, then she'll need to rinse them regularly in the same dilution as she rinses her mouth, so would be better to rinse her mouth without the dentures in. It's probably help also if you could persuade her to sleep without them in! Best of luck Regards Ann - Scotland - Sarah Ihle 11 November 2001 14:56 Oral Thrush in adults? Guest guest
Propolis ticture can be very helpful here, along with myrrh. Use as a gargle and rinse. Guest guest
Yes, I go with the propolis tincture - should have thought of that as I'm a beekeeper! Regards Ann - Scotland
Guest guest
I was taught years ago by New England herbalist Arcus Flynn, RN, that Taheebo bark (Tabebuia Impetiginosa), a.k.a. Pau D'arco, is excellent for dealing with all types of fungal infections .. as she said - if Taheebo doesn't kill it, it wasn't fungal. She suggested a mouthwash made from Taheebo bark for thrush and for the herb to also be taken internally. Sounds like MIL has to get new teeth though to really stop this problem, not just band-aid the symptoms! *Smile* Chris (list mom) http://www.alittleolfactory.com Sarah Ihle wrote: >Anyone have any info on treatments?
