Guest guest
:: crawling out of lurkdom:: Does anyone have any ideas for getting a 4 month old to sleep? My son won't sleep more than 2 hours in a row and I don't think I can take much more of this sleep deprivation experiment he is running ! My dr. recommended starting him on solids, and I've tried some baby food & rice cereals.. but none of it extends his sleeping time AT ALL ! When he wakes, he wants to be fed - I give him a bottle and he goes back to sleep for another 30 minutes - 2 hours.. He was sleeping in the family bed until he started kicking me for his waking hours ( running in place sort of) so I moved him to his own mattress ajoining our bed, he still wakes up and kicks in place for hours at a time and his sleeping patterns are the same. Any suggestions welcome.. as I am exhausted. ~*~ Hawke~*~
Guest guest
Hawke Do you nurse him? If you do - drinking a strong infusion of chamomile (sometimes with passionflower, too) will help(it does for me)...if not...try giving him some weak chamomile tea in his bottle...maybe he misses the family bed- my guy in a kicker, too- but he still sleeps with us- he just turned 2, and has been sleeping from 8:30-9:00- 6:30 am...... Chamomile is good for little ones because of the calcium, and the calming effects- my guy drinks it every day...(no juice!!) He could be going through a growth spurt- thus wanting to feed more often. He seems pretty little to start on solids- I dont know why docs push this...My son hardly ate a thing until he was a year old- but he nursed a lot-the best baby food :-) Keep up the good work Michelle - moonflowerhawke Sunday, November 11, 2001 9:11 AM Help! my baby won't sleep! :: crawling out of lurkdom:: Does anyone have any ideas for getting a 4 month old to sleep? Guest guest
Have you tried using the tiniest drop of Lavender eo in the nighttime bath? The highest altitude grown you can get the better Dissolve it in full cream milk to prevent him getting it in his eyes if he rubs his fists in them. Or you could try burning it in the room. Is he colicky? My boy (now 35!) was a really bad sleeper, with a pattern just like you are describing. I wish I'd known what I know now - I'd probably have gently massaged his abdo - clockwise - and then turned him and massaged the middle portion of his back in circular movements also. and I'd use 1 drop of Lavender, 1 drop of Roman Chamomile and 1 drop of Geranium in 40 ml of Sweet almond oil, or any other vegetable oil. Is he teething perhpas? Best of luck If you're not nursing him can you get out of the room for a couple of nights and let someone else cope? even if its just for one night a week, the good night's sleep helps Take care - it WILL end Regards Ann - Scotland - moonflowerhawke 11 November 2001 14:11 Help! my baby won't sleep! :: crawling out of lurkdom:: Does anyone have any ideas for getting a 4 month old to sleep? Guest guest
I have tried adding chamomile and lavender to the bath water at night before bed. 1 drop each should do it. I make baby and kids soaps with that blend in it and get quite a few requests for more after they have tried them. So I know those essential oils work., Helaine
Guest guest
Hugs to you! I have no advice though, my son wanted to sleep through the night at 2 weeks old. I wouldn't be able to take the sleep deprivation either? Have you tried having him sleep in another position? Like in a car seat or bouncy seat? Maybe he doesn't like being flat on his back. Hope you find the answer soon, Michele -- moonflowerhawke Sun, 11 Nov 2001 09:11:44 EST Help! my baby won't sleep! :: crawling out of lurkdom:: Does anyone have any ideas for getting a 4 month old to sleep? Guest guest
Hawke, Michele brought up a good thought. My son had the same sleep thing going on. I noticed that he didn't sleep for more than 1 1/2 to 2 hours at a time unless he fell asleep in the car and I brought him into the house and left him in the car seat. I told his doctor about it and she said he could have reflux, said it was common and that it wouldn't hurt him to sleep in his car seat. So that's what he did. I put his car seat into his bassinet in my room and he slept like that until he was almost 1yr. I had a large bassinet that his seat fit right into and when we were out visiting I put it in his playpen. Now, at almost 2 he sleeps on his stomach with his bottom up in the air. It's pretty funny, if he was flipped over he would be in the same position as in the car seat.
