Guest guest
I just wanted to share: When I went into labor with my son (did a drug free labor and delivery) I made 3 blends. One was for the laboring tub ... it was a milk bath blend of Lavander and Geranium Another was a massage blend of Geranium, Rose, Clary Sage, Jasmine and Lavender Lastly I had a diffuser blend, which I put into a portable battery operated diffuser .... Spikenard, Jasmine, Rose, Neroli, and Ylang Ylang I personally felt they REALLY helped me through the most trying parts of L & D (A.k.a. transition!) .. and my baby came into the world using that sense of smell and detecting something wonderful *Smile* Chris (list mom) http://www.alittleolfactory.com

Guest guest
Thank you! I'll definitely want to get some of that blend. And I'll hunt down a battery powered diffuser, we can't use the AC outlets at my birthing center. Maybe this time I'll get to use the tub! (Last time, my water broke and had meconium, so no tub for me with AJ ) That and my enya CDs should do the trick. Now if I could just teach DH how to properly massage...... Guest guest
For my first labor and delivery I used a lot of patchouli and my veil of peace blend. Neither are your typically relaxing type scents, but are more geared to hormone stimulation. The purpose of using these blends was to keep my hormones up and my adrenaline up. I was in labor for a little over 3 days with my first one, and the actual pushing part was about 6 hours. However, I never used drugs or sedatives of any sort other than my self prescribed herbals and aromatherapy blends. I also spent most of my labor dancing, and my pushing part squatting with other women dancing and drumming (I was still dancing in a way, but not so much movement). The veil of peace contains Sandalwood - for healing, protection White sage - for cleansing Rosemary - for remembrance Pine - for cleansing Pennyroyal - to purify Orange - for luck Myrrh - to break the hex Lotus - for divine protection Juniper - calming, healing, protection, exorcism Eucalyptus - for healing Dragon's Blood - extra power Copal - for protection Clove - to improve focus Chamomile - to harmonize Cedarwood - for healing Benzoin - to clear the negativity Basil - for mental clarity and love Angelica - protects from evil Rose - for love among people White Oak Bark - for the power to go on Star anise - wisdom of the stars Vervain - ancient power Wolfsbane (arnica) - to protect us Jasmine - for love Oakmoss - to heal Bee pollen - to work together Lavender - for love, peace Frankincense - for spiritual harmony Balm of Gilead buds - to heal wounds Heal all herb - the power of nature To this blend I added sea salt and quartz crystal. Group A is 4 parts, group B is 3 parts, groups C is 1/2 parts. I have made this other times, just picking and choosing some of the herbs when I don't have all of them. BTW, this is a magickally geared recipe, blended for the purpose behind the herbs, not necessarily the smell. It just sort of happened by accident that it turned out to smell so good. Now I make every conceivable thing (bath salts, lotions, creams, salves, etc) in this scent simply because people keep asking for it again and again. And while we are still on the subject of labor and making it good, let me give you my gemstone massage lecturette:) From personal experience, and many observed experiences, I do not think there is anything better for a laboring mom than a partner with some oil and a handful of tumbled gemstones (quarter size or larger). They don't need to be round, actually odd shaped helps, and they shouldn't be too big, 3 or 4 comfortably in the hand. Have your partner hold them, or stick them under your arms to warm them up. Then roll them all over the lower back while you do the waltz support position (woman's hands around partner's neck, with knees relaxed, head resting on partner's chest and swaying around, rocking her hips back and forth. Partner provides support and stability, and uses their hands to massage and support the lower back). Add oil or lotion if you want (adding scents at your discretion). Why it works: The solidness of the stones, as compared to human hands. Hands are great, and perfect for massage. However during labor things are intense, including the immense pressure being exerted on our usually weak lower backs as the baby sits there pushing the cervix open. The hardness of the stones is what is needed to really push on the muscles and cause the proper relaxing and tensing that is the benefit of a good massage. Just like any good massage it removes toxins by stimulating fresh blood flow and pumping the muscles without creating a lack of oxygen caused during a 'workout.' The electrical capacity of crystals. Crystals are made of the same molecules as water. As we have all seen, crystals and water are great electrical conductors. The skin carries a very minor electrical charge. When you roll conductors all over it, constantly moving and pushing and pulling, it creates a moving field (as opposed to the static one we are normally in). Moving electrical current also moves ions! This also pulls blood in and moves it around, and it stimulates the muscle mildly (and the other tissues around the area) without causing fatigue! Since crystals can carry an electrical charge, the can also carry heat. We all know that heat goes a long way to relax the muscles and the body. So, now you have three things going for you. And as an added bonus, it takes a lot less work on the end of the partner doing the massage to roll the stones, therefore they can keep it up for longer. Guest guest
I sure wish I knew all of this wonderful stuff oh-so-many-years-ago. I would have preferred a mid-wife after my sil had one, but it is not legal in Iowa to practice mid-wifery unless you are Amish. I do agree that relaxation is the key to a more painless delivery. From my first one I decided that I am in control and this is going to be a calm experience. By the time the third one rolled around I had it down pat. There was a woman across the hall in L & D that was screaming her head off. There I was, meditating and relaxing. The nurses came in and asked if I was ok, I was so quiet. I said, "Ya, I'm ok and the woman across the hall would be too if she would just shut-up and relax." They loved that, they were getting tired of her too I think. My second was induced......BAD BAD THING. The whole L & D was just under three hours.....all hard. Still I tried to relax. Do any of you think that being relaxed makes the L & D time shorter? None of my L & Ds were over 12 hours.
