Guest guest
Howdy Folks, I am so excited. I am going to be teaching soap making classes at my local Michael's craft store! I am going to set up a schedule, work out details, etc .. tomorrow with them! Being new to class teaching I would like to get some input from folks here who have taken crafting classes. Is there anything that stands out that you liked about a class (or classes) you've taken? Anything that stands out that you very much disliked about a class (or classes) you've taken? I know I can think of a few things off the top of my head to answer both questions and I want to see what other folks think too Thanks! *Smile* Chris (list mom) http://alittleolfactory.safeshopper.com
Guest guest
Congratulations Chris!!!!!!!!!! I'm sure with all your knowledge and experience that you will be a great teacher.) I have found so much depends on the experience of those enrolled in the class. If they are all new to this craft then, keep it simple and cover all the basics. If there are more experienced persons in the class they get bored with all the basics. Handouts are a must, some can not take notes fast enough or something is always missed. Let them know in advance that all questions are of value, and none are stupid. I wish I lived closer would love to attend the soap making classes;o) Good luck.. Sandi > I am so excited. Guest guest
Would you like to come to the East of Scotland and take some soap making classes please? I suspect you don't need much in the way of tips but I'd say : Things I've learnt : Handouts are quite important, means people can listen to you instead of taking notes. Keep it simple - you could take loads of different ingredients and different recipes but its important that they do it right quite early so as not to lose interest, also means you don't have to take so much stuff with you. Make sure you stay in charge! Things I've liked : folks enthusiasm realising I do know what I'm talking about! the sales that follow on! the 'buzz' that comes from standing out there doing it Things I've disliked : the one that's always there, that knows it all (why do they come?) I always take too much, have to carry it in and then out again and each time wonder why I haven't learned my lesson Enjoy Regards Ann - Scotland - Christine Ziegler 03 November 2001 17:16 Teaching Classes Howdy Folks,I am so excited. Is there anything that stands out that you liked about a class Chris, I , also, teach. Not only soapmaking, but, cooking, sewing, cake decorating, table etiquite, etc....... The main thing I do, because I teach a lot of very young people ,is to never let them fail at whatever they're trying to learn or do. I always make sure my class is small enough to give one on one instruction. If that's not possible, I will, and have, gone to student's homes and helped them. I realize that when you're doing this for profit that it's not feasiable to do this, but I want my students to go away from my class having learned, and being comfortable with what they have learned, and am always available by phone for help at a future time. I still call my Chef ( instructor in college ) from time to time for help on something i'm doing. HTH's, Deonia
