If you have no ticks there, obviously, is less danger of disease. They also control the ground stage of horn flies. Their presence in sugar cane field eliminates or reduced the need for pesticide to treat a certain caterpillar that is a scourge to sugar cane growers - Todd Gibson >> Hi all~ (I have barely time to skim the list, but I happened to open this digest and this caught my eye. ) So what do you do if you have both? We live in SC and we fight the fire ants as much as the ticks. My 7 year old has been the only one not to have been attacked fire ants yet. We treat the fire ants, and all they seem to do is move, and make a new mound! LOL I actually broke down and bought some spray for the yard, but I just can't bare to spray that stuff all over it. ick! So it has just been sitting here. I bought some natural tick repellent spray (called " tick guard " ), with peppermint, lemongrass, and rosemary oils, and it seems to work pretty well. With the colder weather setting in, things are getting better though.
