Guest guest
Effie. great post you are obviously an earth person... connected to reality that we all should be more connected... and " darned " mouse anyway... though in 8 years I never ate a chicken I actually knew , we had about 20 chickens at all times, strictly as layers and pets... I should tell the story of family friends of our family named Andersen.. they were from around Solvang California and Bernard also worked for Peasoup Andersen's in the wine cellar.. but he was know as Chicken Andersen having over 50,000 chickens . for all purposes... I got to visit the farm and check out the chickens .. and the eggs .. he always gave us the triple yoke eggs... anyway that's it PeaSoup and Chicken.. Guest guest
I have read some of the posts about saving chickens, bugs, and what not. For me, I was born and raised on a farm and one of my jobs was when Mom wanted to fix chicken, it was up to me to chop off its head and dress it. At that time I didn't think much about it--that is just the way it was. Now--I don't know if I could do it. It was a lot different 50 plus years ago than it is now. We didn't have super markets with all the meats to pick from so it was up to us to butcher a sow (pig) or do a small beef calf. That was just the way we had to live. A lot of canning in the summer--enough to get through the winter months. They were extremely hard times, but I can say what is easy for one is very disgusting for another. In the winter, mice usually try to get into houses around here and I for one use decon. They are dirty and disgusting and I don't like them running across my kitchen counter and this only happened once cause I caught the little bugger that night. For myself I have to think of health factors because of some of these so called 'critters'. I guess it just don't work for everyone. Hope I didn't seem rude or crude with this post. Just the facts and the way I was raised. Even had to churn our own butter, never heard of a frig till I was a senior in high school, leave alone a bathroom in the house. Times have sure changed--thank God. My kids would wake up with them in their hair.
