Natural De-icer

OK, dumb question #2...... Anyone know of any natural de-icers besides salt? I've read about some

products made from grain oils but haven't used them or talked with anyone that has. We had some

snow and ice in N.California, but will get a bit more here in Idaho. Since I got seriously injuried several years ago on ice, I'm extremely nervous about it. Don't want to use salt though, too destructive to the vegetation and sand is soooooo messy.

Hi Carol,

I remember something I had gotten years back in NYC that was some kind of

much more friendly to pets and landscapes natural de-icer, but I can't remember

what it was right now (maybe a magnesium salt instead of a sodium salt???).

If/when I remember I'll tell you :) Worst comes to worst .. cover the ice

with straw, hay and/or sawdust .....

If you have a woodstove or a fireplace, use the ash. Works great.

Bright blessings,

Hi... lol

Believe it or not, good old plain cat litter works too... (we used it

in a pinch back in Connecticut!) The clay-type, no additives, in other

words - the cheap stuff? <grin>
