Guest guest
Too funny! I usually get sex-linked hens so no roosters. I remember that we did have a rooster growing up who liked to hide behind a tree in the run and then come at you claws first! Had to take a broom in everytime we went into the run. Boy did he taste good Oh and did you clip both wings or just one? If you clip both they can still fly. Ours would dig under the fence of the run and get out that way. Then the neighborhood bobcat found free dinner all waiting for him and we went from 24 to 10 chickens that night. I do miss a good home " grown " brown egg, sigh, I can't wait until next spring! Michelle, watch it if you get any roosters, I started with 5 cute little chicks three years ago and two years later, I had almost fifty! All born right here. My pet chicken , Sadie, who used to ride on my shoulder everywhere I went outside, wouldn't stay off the nest! She took over my Chimminea that was sitting on my patio and I never was able to build a fire in it until I gave them all away. Loved the manure, hated chasing them when they flew away, And, yes , I did clip their wings, the little heathens just flew from tree to tree and walked over the fence. Every time I turned around, one of my neighbors was bring Sadie home. Everybody in the neighborhood knew her. LOL Deonia
Guest guest
Hi Michele, Deonia.. Roosters.. did anyone say roosters??? ROFL My Dad.. when I was little, decided he'd raise chickens.. picked out 3 little one's a week, we named em all, girly names.. they were sooooooooo cute! We were happy-- gonna have fresh eggs and all that.. turned out we ended up w/13 roosters.. NO chickens.. names like Lucy, Sally.. etc.. you get the picture.. we loved em anyways.. but, when they all got big, they got sooooooooo mean! Used to chase and bite us, our dogs.. anyone! They got outta the chicken coop all the time. Dad kept saying he was going to (on Every weekend) kill one and we'd eat it.. Mom and I said we weren't eating em and she wouldn't cook em... and then it turned out that Dad who went out to do it every weekend.......couldn't kill them! Finally gave em away to someone on another street... (small town) guess they ate them.. but never really asked! Anyways, you two just reminded me of this.. lol Hugs, Marilyn Michele at home wrote: > Too funny! I usually get sex-linked hens so no roosters.
