Ugh, you make me not want lobster anymore, and I LOVE lobster! :P But on the food side, I think if the issue comes up I'll just eat my way through the freezer, I put up green beans, broccoli, cauliflower, rhubarb, raspberries, blackberries, and other yummies this summer. :) No chickens yet, but we're getting 12 next year once we get the coop shoveled out.

Hey Janet,

> Ok It is my fault I turned the news on. Ha! I must be more careful.

One of those evils we can't live without .. ;-p

I think the fellow is embellishing .. howsomever, I have seen folks all

over the world rush to hoard food everytime they thought something was

going down so there could be a shortage in the markets. It's not easy

to saturate the fields of America with harmful substances ... all the

crop dusters in Arkansas aren't enough to spray the bean fields there.

> The reporters suggestion cook foods thoroughly etc.

A relatively safe recommendation .. ;-)

I've done that before - in Mogafriggindishu, Somalia. There, everything

makes you sick - breathing the danged air makes you sick - flies and

bugs biting make you sick - the only thing we found that didn't make us

sick was canned beer - twas German beer ... Heninger.

Somalis are hard-core Islamic - don't eat lobsters - but the Mogadishu

Bay was fulla them bugs and the Somalis learned that us Infidels were

crazy bout'em so they brought'em in when they got hung up in fish nets -

sold'em in the market for around 25 cents a kilo (2.205 pounds). There

was a Chinese Kenyan ex-pat owned a greasy spoon in the center of town -

outside it was under some big Humma-Humma trees (forgot the name) and

all the foreigners ate there .. Red Chinese, North Koreans and Russians

were most in abundance as the Soviets had just left Somali when we

poured in - but the Communist citizens had started industries there due

to the extremely cheap labor. This joint (can't call it a restaurant)

was the best of the worst - didn't have a refrigerator .. had an old

ice-box so you didn't have to worry about meat being tough - if you were

inclined to eat their lousy meat. We went for the lobster and ginger

sauce over rice .. big double order with nice chunks of lobster in it.

It tasted real good going down but we almost always lost it afore we got

back to our hootch .. and went back the next night for more .. ;-p

Folks tawking about immunizations, we needed a special shot record just

to record the ones we got afore going to Somalia .. I've seen filth all

over the world but Somalia takes the prize!

Back to the subject - we wouldn't eat their veggies - too much Cholera,

so we washed our veggies in a solution of Clorox water. Sounds bad -

huh? It was bad!

If I had to do it again today, I'd do it with something effective

against a wide range of bacteria but tasted good at the same time - I

reckon I'd use Oregano or Rosemary Hydrosol!

> Oh I realize ideally we would only eat what we grew but then there

> is reality life.

Of course .. everybody got a veggie garden, a back yard fulla chickens

and a cow or two ... ;-p

Michelle, watch it if you get any roosters, I started with 5 cute little chicks three years ago and two years later, I had almost fifty! All born right here. My pet chicken , Sadie, who used to ride on my shoulder everywhere I went outside, wouldn't stay off the nest! She took over my Chimminea that was sitting on my patio and I never was able to build a fire in it until I gave them all away. Loved the manure, hated chasing them when they flew away, And, yes , I did clip their wings, the little heathens just flew from tree to tree and walked over the fence. Every time I turned around, one of my neighbors was bring Sadie home. Everybody in the neighborhood knew her. LOL Deonia
