Guest guest
So with all the talk of Lemon's yesterday, I decided to try and make some lemon soap. I ran several lemons though the juicer (the type that takes the whole fruit or vegie and separates the pulp from the juice) and used the juice as my liquid. When I added the lye to the lemon juice it the colored turned to a dark blood red (reminded me of a bloody mary, mmmmmm). It cooked and set up extremely fast, almost didn't get it into the molds. I added lemon and rosemary eo to it but the scent doesn't seem to be coming through. Almost has a burnt scent. The soap did turn out a real pretty pumpkin color though and its suds well. Any ideas what may have happened with the scent? Should I have diluted the lemon juice with distilled water??? I'll have to check the scent tommorrow and see if the lemon is there. Oh well I am going to pout over a big piece of lemon pie.....I forgot to mention, I LOVE lemon. Craved it big time when I was preggo with my little ones, who are now bigger than me..... Try adding just a tablespoon of very finely ground oatmeal to the next batch. That might help hold the scent. I plan on putting some ground , dried, lemon peel in my coffee grinder and making a powder out of it to add to the lemon soap I make to see if that works. deonia
Guest guest
Thanks Deonia, I'll try the oatmeal. I even added lemon eo with no luck. There is a scent, more of a spicy/flower smell, but not lemony. Guest guest
Hi Carol, Deonia all... Sounds like it still smells really good though maybe not what you'd originally planned, Carol - look at it this way too. Some of the best and nicest scents (and other things) are made by 'accident'! Guest guest
hey all, If you want a nice lemony smell, try May Chang. Lovely flower, smells very lemony, with a richer and deeper scent and it LASTS! Cheers! Guest guest
You may also hear of it as litsea too. It is a real nice scent. I got mine in a fast buy so I have no idea where to order it again afterwards. Helaine
Guest guest
Thanks everyone on the help and suggestions on the non-lemon scented, lemon soap I made. At least I now know that lemon juice produces a nice pumpkin spice color so I can use it as a coloring agent. Where do you get May Chang?? I have never heard of it (which doesn't mean much since I am still fairly new to fragrances and such). Thank you again, Carol W
Guest guest
It's Latin name is Litsea Cubeba - wouldn't be surprised if Chris stocks it! Guest guest
Carol May chang is also known as " litsea cubeba " it is an essential oil and most eo sellers have it. It is high in citrals and is used for its uplifting qualities- also in place of melissa eo as it is MUCH cheaper :-)michelle - Carol <doggone Sunday, October 21, 2001 11:48 PM Re: Lemon Soap > Thanks everyone on the help and suggestions on the non-lemon scented, > lemon soap I made. Guest guest
I see them on other soap lists where someone wants to buy a big quanity of something and they get others to order then they all get it at a cheaper price cuz of the amount they buy. I also buy from my different lists on the times they have ads always seem to get good buys that way. Helaine
