Guest guest
We have a big old stinky dog. He's a German Shepard/Chow mix so he is big and hairy (beautiful red hair). He's 10 years old and the older he gets, the stinkier he gets, I am so frustrated. He's an inside dog so I can't figure out where the stink comes from. Anyway, can anyone recommend a good cleansing bar and EO's that are safe to use on him? I'm paranoid the stinky smell will seep into our carpets (if it hasn't already, ugh!) TIA! Guest guest
I had a stinky dog who was a Chow/Shepherd mix .. Nugget (God/dess rest her soul, she passed naturally in my arms the same day Princess Diana died) I'll tell ya what was REALLY good to help control her doggie smell .. and worked for weeks on end ... Aubrey Brand Dog Shampoo AND the Aubrey Dog Conditioner. She also had an eczema type skin condition that she was treated by a homeopathic vet for, and these products not only was non-irritating to her skin, but it actually seemed to soothe her condition, especially the conditioner *Smile*Chris (list mom) Jasmine Absolute Co-op http://www.alittleolfactory.com - Jennifer Brechbill Tuesday, October 16, 2001 6:10 PM Re: Speaking of dogs... <<<Chow dogs are like that from what I remember the one we had as a kid .....my dad found him and named him grizzly. Guest guest
Hi Jennifer, The age has a funny way of making a great big dog a great big stinky dog sometimes ) There are many eos you can use, but I do have one question. What do you feed your dog? I will not suggest shampooing too often as this can cause more problems for most dogs. I will suggest rinsing him with filtered water (or a herbal blend) and misting him with a spray to freshen him up. You can use Lavender and Atlas Cedarwood as they are very good for skin and also for bad odors ) (I also add Patchouli, Rose Geranium, Cypress to those eos after Mundo rolls around with her doggy pal in the park). I will also suggest brushing him 3 times a week at least. You can use the same eos lightly in a carrier oil and use it as perfume if you like 2 drops on his neck and 2-3 on his back and massage it in. Just keep it away from his nose, eyes etc. You can also use powder on him before you brush him down. We use arrow root here and I do add some eos in it. I also feed a home cooked diet and feel that while outside care is important, feeding can make or break a dog. I thank my dog for teaching me everything I know ) I hope this helps you some. Good luck. Sevi ) http://www.mundoco.com , " Jennifer Brechbill " <attached@e...> wrote: > We have a big old stinky dog. He's a German Shepard/Chow mix so he is big > and hairy (beautiful red hair). Guest guest
feeding can make or break a dog. > Sevi ) > http://www.mundoco.com I 100% agree!!!!!!!! Same goes for cats .. did you know that most commercial foods on the market are made from either indigestible products, or lowest grade by products of foods and meats? Either get a brand of pet food that does not contain any meat by products (that classification of meats includes everything from pressure cooked eyelids to tumors, I kid you not), or does not contain corn as the first ingredient (ground up cob is considered corn for pet foods - it is indigestible) or artificial preservatives (such as BHT) and artificial colors (they can cause many skin and behavioral problems - like in people)! Or get a book like " Natural Health For Dogs And Cats " by Pitcarin and Pitcarin DVM, which has easy, inexpensive, healthy, appetizing recipes to cook for your dogs and cats. *Smile* Chris (list mom) Happy Halloween - Made With Organic Pumpkin New! Guest guest
> .. did you know that most commercial foods on the market are made from either indigestible products, or lowest grade by products of foods and meats? Oh yes I do! That is what made me trade my chef's hat - that and my GSD got seriously ill due to carpet freshener and to make it worst developed food allergies and skin allergies. I get calls all day long here asking me if my dog grooming products will cure their dogs and sadly I have to tell them the same thing I tell everyone. It all starts with your dogs internal health. There are exceptions, rashes due to detergents and fragrance in grooming supplies, inhalant allergies (mold, dust etc.) - but than I do have a list of things I fax or e-mail people on that. I do have info on BHT and BHA on our site as well as many other cosmetic ingredients that can cause harm http://mundoco.com/whatisinyour.html It is quite scary about the commercial pet food industry. Quite upsetting too Woof! *hugs* Sevi :-) http://www.mundoco.com

I used to think Natures Own was the best dog food in town, and still do think it's great ( lamb & rice formula) but I just started feeding my animals a new holistic dog food ( and cat food ) called Solid Gold, and also use some of their supplements. I'm really sold on it. BTW, Chris said to be prepared to introduce myself, since i'm new to tha list, and I think you all will recognize me as Deonia, Bubbles & Wax With Style. If not, you might want to check out my homepage on AOL to kinda see where I'm coming from. That addy is.......HTTP://WWW.HOMETOWN.AOL.COM/sadiefluggins ( Sadie Fluggins is one of my screen names I use when I am cybersurfing and don't want anyone to know who I really am) I'm also one of Butch's biggest fans, and as soon as I can get into the "edit" mode of my homepage, will add Chris's "addy" to my favorite sites. I am a social animal, but my feelings have ups and its downs when it comes to humans - I pretty much can read most dogs and feel comfortable knowing that when respected their space, I can always find a middle ground with them. They wern't actually hers, she took them when her sister had to go to a nursing home, but they had been together all their lives and I was determined that they stay together. Just so happens that the lady who took them, who already has 16 dogs and over 100 cats but she took them anyway, was left a large enough sum of money to build a new facility which will be named after my friend. I couldn't begin to count the number of animals that went through her tiny hands while she was alive. deonia
Guest guest
Hi Ann, >>She's a bit of a lost soul. I know what you mean! I lost my 12 year old toy poodle " Cinnamon " at the end of July of this year. She was 3 pounds + 1000 pounds of love! I felt lost, but Mundo stopped eating and would not get up at all and Mundo is full of energy all the time! It was hard for me to tend to her needs as I was also hurting. So I did lay on the sofa for a week, refusing to eat or talk and just cried, but than noticed that Mundo was sooooo sad also. So I had to get up and tend to her and dragged myself out often and took her to our play ground 3 times a day. By playing with her and keeping her out of the house for a while, she did feel better and to my surprise I too started to heal. But it all takes time - a long time! I hope that your dog will feel better soon Sevi
Guest guest
Sorry on my tardy response--have been pretty sick the last couple weeks and am just now catching up on some of the emails. I had a Sheltie and he was the most behaved, mild mannered, protective dog I had ever had. Love him to pieces. I now have a party cocker (red/white) who turned 13 in April. She is still doing very well and yes, just as wonderful as my sheltie. Love--more from her than I ever got from my ex!!! She has licked away my tears many times and gets really close to me when she knows I am 'off' or down a little. I have debated getting another dog before her time comes but really feel it wouldn't be fair to her. I, too, couldn't live without animals. My daughter is worse than I am. Right now she has 6 dogs, 4 cats, guinea pig, hamster and a snake besides a 10 year old and 7 year old twin girls plus her husband. She has a day-care besides!! I thank my best friend for all the animals he placed on this earth for us to enjoy and learn from. Effie James W.
