Guest guest
Hi Michelle, Hatred, sure... but where's the racism? I missed it... and a terrorist is still a terrorist and that's what this war is all about, no matter of the race, color, religion, sex... etc., it's still terrorism. What's racism even got to do with this? We're all Americans here... I have no clue as to anyone's color, religion, etc... nor does it matter... to me anyways. I still believe in God Bless America and United We Stand.. - which covers ALL Americans - racism just has no place there... Guest guest
Hi Karen, It's hard to see people in pacifist/peace marches when we've had war declared on us.... do we not or are we not supposed to defend ourselves? Pacifism is wonderful, " in it's place " - keep in mind that this is " only " my opinion and the same opinion, by each and every poll in America. If you think not standing up to terrorism, will actually stop all this, think again.. it won't. And remember.. perhaps those pacifists didn't happen to volunteer in the massive clean-up that will be ongoing for probably a year............or lose their friends, family or any loved ones.... makes a bit of a difference...... I happen to think that United We Stand is a good thing... as is God Bless America....... Guest guest
Hi Karen.. - Chris, Whatever... sorry to offend you <Karen> - maybe you should re-read what I said, since what I said was not quite at all what you replied to! And.. if this happens to be the topic, please don't feel you have the right to decide for me whether or not I shall respond to it - that's not your choice, it's mine. Or if Chris should tell or ask me not to post on this topic, after all, it's her list.. not mine or yours........goodness, where on earth did I call pacifist's cowards... think those are your words - not mine...off topic.. opting out??? what on earth are you talking about? Remember, we can always just agree to disagree, right? Quakers... WWII.... goodness.. calm down, will ya? I respect your opinion.. how about respecting mine? ( you sure don't sound too peaceful... sorry, but you don't.. ) I have no wish to argue w/you - I was merely expressing my opinion as I said, just like you had the right to do. Thanks for defending me, Chris, and allowing me to express my opinions and you're right... about what I said, though I didn't say that 'nobody' volunteered who happened to be a pacifist,. I know you picked up on that though.. I said, " perhaps " ... quite a different meaning. You're also right in that I'm not really in a pacifist mode right now, in that we are in the midst of defending our own country - one I'm proud to live in, be a part of and love dearly. Guest guest
Okay, at the risk of getting it chopped into, I'm going to stick my neck out here... I am NOT a pacifist. Never have been, Never will be. It ain't me. However... I DO have problems with what is going on in Afghanistan right now. Quite frankly I don't think it's going to do a whole lot for anyone. OBL and his T-buddies are going to dig themselves in and it's going to take a LOT of death to get them out. Don't get me wrong. The Taliban is horrific. I want them out as much as anyone else. OBL is worse than scum. He's a murdering coward, and I would LOVE to see him fry, slowly, bit by bit, for YEARS. (told you I wasn't a pacifist, not even a wiccan) for EACH person whose death he has caused. However, as recent and not so recent history has shown us, Afghanistan is going to be REALLY difficult to crack open and get those maggots out. Every single person I've seen/heard, who has any knowledge on the subject, has admitted that it's going to take ground forces, and that is an entirely nother hell. I believe the estimates of the number of Land Mines that the Russians left behind is between 2 and 20 million. They kill and maim every day. How do you deal with THOSE kinds of numbers. Do I have any answers? NO. But as I mentioned in the beginning, I have my doubts that this is the way to go. I keep hearing the term " softening up " ... Russians tried it, it didn't work. Who's getting softened up? OBL? Nah! He's in a cave somewhere? Taliban Leadership? Nope. They're in a similar type hidey hole. There have been suggestions that we could use heat seeking devices, only problem with that, is they have to be placed in proximity...ground forces. There were other devices that could be placed to detect deep caves, possibly inhabited...Again it will take Ground Forces... Anyway, there's MY stand on it. So heave with the AXE! ;-) Cheers! Guest guest
No AXE's here except my electric guitar But what do we do then .. just leave them alone? Go hide in a cave ourselves while binLaden wlks in the light of day and figures out the next US city to blow up a big building in (or worse)? Changing US policy isn't the ultimate goal of terrorists, especially considering they terrorize " their own people " too - Turks can't stand the Islamic Fundamentalists, and Turks are Muslim and targets! ... So what can we do? Or is this the best possible answer in the worst possible situation, even if it isn't ideal? I don't know, but I trust folks who know better than me to, well, at least know a little better than me *LOL* *Smile* Chris http://www.alittleolfactory.com > Okay, at the risk of getting it chopped into, I'm going to stick my neck out > here... > > I am NOT a pacifist. Guest guest
Now Chris, I NEVER said that I had any answers. I just wonder if this is the way to do it. It hasn't succeeded in the past! As to " do we just forget it? " HELL NO! Quite frankly, (and I think I've seen this suggested before) I bet you, if you put a big enough price on their head, someone would be delighted to claim it, maybe even his/their own people. Like I said, I have no solutions to offer, but I am CONCERNED about the present course. Cheers! Guest guest
Kinda hard to find a right answer in all this death! But taliban took responsability for bin lauden and had the chance to hand him over knowing what the consequences were. Wish there was an easier way but i do feel better knowing somethings being done! They keep taking about the sleeper agents here in the US and honestly i think they will do terrorist attacks regardles wheather we attacked or not they would find other reasons there just driving by hate!i'm sad for any innocent poeple hurt and killed in all this but at least the us is giving wearning and not just sneak attacks hoepfull most civillians got far enouph away! so sad knowing today while we sit here people are fighting to keep us free and people are dying to protect that scum what a waste. I do think were doing exsactly what OBL wants! so he can try to declare a holy war ect ( i don't get that noone is even concerned about anyones beliefs just his slimeness being removed from the planet)..which as cruel as it sounds i'm glad noone of any religion should murder in the name of any god! hugs Sarah making no real side here lol just agreeing its sad! > " Kathleen Petrides " <petrides5 > > >Re: OT: Some American Thoughts on Osama bin >Laden and His Scumbag Group >Wed, 10 Oct 2001 15:47:01 -0700 > >Now Chris, > >I NEVER said that I had any answers. Guest guest
Michelle, Hatred is something I can understand - few folks are fond of OBL and his gang of cut throats .. if you've been watching CNN you'vd seen them swear more terror on the USA and ridicule the losses we've already experienced. Racism - I missed it. The last few conflicts the USA was involved in were to defend Moslems - in fact, the very latest was to defend them against fanatic Christians .. Milsovic and his bunch of yo-yings. If Osma bin Laden were Spanish, Black African, American Indian or Redneck Irish from Tennessee .. he would be hated and it has nothing to do with racism. I have many Arabic and Moslem friends - I've lived in a Moslem countries over 20 years .. been in one since May 1988 this trip ... and I was married to a Moslem for 21 years. She converted to Christianity on her own desire after we married and went to church regularly - even though I didn't. It didn't make her a better or worse person. If I see no racism there - I think there is none there. Considering that 98% or better of the Turkish, Iraqi, Iranian and Chechian people I know and drink with often feel exactly the same as I do about OBL and his gang of yo-yings, I'd say there is not Islamic prejudice to be found there either .. in fact, most Moslems are ashamed of the image the yo-yings are presenting to the world ... Guest guest
Hey Kathleen, .........all, I sure won't be doing any chopping on you here for sure - you're right.. guess we're doing what we have to do; it'd be REAL nice to just sit back and think that terrorism will just " go away " if we do nothing and ignore it-- ain't going to happen...no way, no how. What I'm hoping is that, for everything they " are " telling us they're doing, ie: the bombings, etc's... there's another 10 more better and bigger things they aren't telling us - and some of it outta work! I'm also figuring that at least a few of our bombs have already hit and set off those land mines - that'd be a good thing and since we've been bombing all over the place, probably places we aren't told about as well, maybe that's also a quickie way to clear out some of them mines... who knows? As to ground forces, the Special Forces are and have been over there for awhile now... though you don't hear too much about them, understandably.... And.. though I'd rather everything be all nice and peaceful, that's just not a reality....being complacent and practicing pacifism right now is being a sitting duck for yet more terrorist attacks - like saying.. " It's ok.. bring em on, we'll take it! " Guess we just wait and see what the next step is going to be - though we've been warned, I'd guess you'd call it, that this is going to be a loooooooong war... Ok, we have Butch's (invaluable) input on where China stands.. how about Syria??? They have a kick-butt airforce and nobodies saying what's up with them! I'm kinda thinking they'll be on the " other " side though......but who knows. Take care, Kathleen, Hugs, Marilyn - from the Anthrax state... translates to Florida, in case someone didn't hear about our 3rd person being hospitalized!)
