Guest guest
I am re-posting this since someone asked me to post a basic soap recipe the other day ~~~~~~~~~ Here is one of my recipes .... since it is high in olive oil you may find it traces kind of fast, I personally like that (I hate to wait a half hour for trace, and I don't use and electric stick blender for soap making This is a big batch as I have converted all my recipes to use 18 oz of lye, since Lewis Red Devil brand lye now comes in that size container. Makes about 12 lbs.of pretty green colored soap which lathers very nicely and is also conditioning. Bars cure nice and hard. Basic Green Soap Olive Pomace Oil 65 oz Coconut Oil 30 oz Palm Oil 30 oz Sweet Almond Oil 4 oz Liquid 48 oz Lye 1 - 18 oz can 1 oz Rose Hip Seed Oil (added at trace to superfat) Essential Oil While wearing safety goggles and gloves, add lye to liquid in a deep container (I use a bucket), stir well. Do not inhale fumes. I do this outside and at arm's length. Let lye water cool. Sometimes I make this solution days in advance. Combine fatty oils (except Rose Hip Seed oil) and heat oils to about 100 degrees. Remove from heat. Add lye solution to your oils and stir well, be careful not to splash! I usually stir rapidly at the center and then stir the sides into that. Stir until mixture " traces " which means it starts to look like custard/cake batter and a drop of the mixture off the spoon will sit on top of the big batch of mixture in the pot for a moment before sinking. Castile soaps tend to trace quickly and a bit thickly. For this reason I do not discount any of the water in my olive based soaps. Now is the time to add the Rose Hip Seed oil and any EO's you may be using. General rule is 2% EO ... use less for very intense scents like tea tree and peppermint, use more for citrus oils .... Pour into molds, let sit for a few days and remove from mold, cut and let cure. (Olive soaps take a little longer to cure over all) Always follow safety precautions (like wearing goggles)! No joke. Lye in your eye is not fun and can blind you in seconds! Gloves are a darn good idea too, that lye solution and raw soap will begin to eat your skin away in a matter of minutes. So, be safe, be cautious, and soap making is fun fun fun *Smile* Chris A Little Ol'Factory http://www.alittleolfactory.com Sun and Wind Dried Sea Salt Crystals 10 LBS http://www.epaganauction.com/cgi-bin/auction/auction.pl?category=ritul3 & item=100\ 2943781
