Chris, you're having almost the same weather as us here in Florida.. we've been 50's at night and 80's in the day... course, you don't get the humidity there.. do you? Butch - you're e-mailing... does this mean you're caught up on files? ROFL Marilyn chrisziggy1 wrote: > That is GREAT Butch ! > My Rosa damascena bushes have plump pink (turning red) rose hips! Guest guest
Hi y'all, It's been long-sleeve weather here in Ankara since maybe mid-September and the last few days, it's been light jacket weather even during the day. Since around mid-September, the three Rosa damascena plants I have growing in LARGE plastic barrels on my balcony have more than doubled in size and just a few minutes ago I checked and noticed lots of new sprouts coming up from the root stock. Two of these plants were grown from root stock and one from three each cuttings .. there is little difference in sizes now. To me, this is interesting and educational as I haven't visited the Rose Fields during late September or October so it's a first for me. Also, these plants are entering their second winter - the first year, there was not a lot of growth during the fall - they just stayed green. Toward the end of October, I'm going to trim the suckers back - leaving all the new growth, to include the new sprouts just popping out of the soil .. I think they will be monsters come April 2002 .. :-) The soil I put in the barrels was garden soil from Ankara .. elevation close to one mile above sea level .. the only thing they've had to eat since the day I planted them is dried sheep manure. My Rosa damascena is smiling .. and I'm smiling .. :-) http://www.av-at.com/distillation/rosadamascena1.html Y'all keep smiling too ...
