Guest guest
I'm not Patti but it sound like she is looking for them to put in cp soap. If you are using th efibers you put a pinch in the lye water and stir so it teh lye dissolves. Liquid I'm not sure when you put it in. It apparently is wunnerful in soap altho I've never tried it. Got silk but never tried it. ONe of those things that sounded good but never got a roundtuit. Hey Patti how much silk you looking for? -Ilene > Sorry, I can't help you on that one! Guest guest
Okay folks, Tell me more about this silk in soap and lotions ... Can I just cut up an ugly old Victoria's Secret camisole and drop in a bucket of lye? *LOL* Why would I want to use silk in my toiletries, what does it do for them (or me)? I know, I should know this as I belong to a ton of lists but I never read the silk threads (no pun intended *Smile* Chris (list mom) http://www.alittleolfactory.com Aromatherapy Basket Auction http://www.epaganauction.com/cgi-bin/auction/auction.pl?category=incense3 & it em=1002245603 - " Ilene " <soapworks Monday, October 01, 2001 1:40 PM Re: Silk Fibers > I have the fiber. Guest guest
From what I understand this is sort of it. You have to cut up silk fibers, I've heard of people using a piece of silk cloth in a pinch. It has to go into the hot lye water so the lye can dissolve it. Apparently you should then strain it to take out anything that isne' dissolved. Then proceed as normal. It is supposed to make your soap, well...silky. -Ilene > > Tell me more about this silk in soap and lotions ... I have used the liquid silk you can buy, the fibers, fresh silk cloth and just old silk from clothing etc. I think you get the best end product from the liquid silk, it is also the least amount of work, you just put some in at the end and stir. I think the fresh silk cloth is the best for the money. It is nearly the same as the liquid silk, and it is a lot less cost wise. It is a little more work to get it to liquid state, but it isn't a big deal, as I process a large batch at once and keep the excess in the fridge until needed. The fibers and the old clothing seem to give about he same effect as far as I can tell. I can never get them completely dissolved and I get a texture to my lotions then. It isn't bad, just not smooth. So if that is what you are going for, then use those. It still has some of the little fibers in it, and they stay on top of the skin, so it creates an almost mask like effect. I also use fibers in my facial masks, but I do not dissolve those. Or if I am using old clothing I put it in the blender with a bit of oil or natural butter (coconut, or whatever I am using), after chopping into itsy bitsy bits of course. The effect it has is definitely silky smooth. The silk fiber itself has benefits too. It contains some nutrients and especially oils that our skin needs. We do produce them ourselves, but it is nice to add some. I think this is why the liquid seems to work better, I think it has more oils in it. Looking at the bottle here, one of the ingredients is coconut oil. I would definitely suggest you try it out in a batch of soap to see what it is like. Maybe a batch with some dissolved and also some fibers in at the end to make it a little exfoliating:) You would have a pre-order customer for a few bars:) Blessings, Soseneda Quidquid Latine dictum sit, altum videtur. Guest guest
Hi Chris, You can use silk clothing.... Just cut it up into tiny little pieces and put it in the laye water it dissovles from the lye use this in a cp soap. Not the whole camisole now mind, you just a few snips will do. Try it, you WILL notice a difference. For lotions you need the liquid.... Makes lotion so silky.. takes away the greasy feeling. - chrisziggy1 Monday, October 01, 2001 3:11 PM Re: Silk Fibers Okay folks, Tell me more about this silk in soap and lotions ...
