OT: Criminal Terrorist Actions

Hi y'all,

We have all seen Americans show their best side - their inner self in

times of extreme difficulty. It's something I'm sure we're all proud

of. But this wake-up call is (unfortunately) overdue .. Americans have

too long felt a false sense of security. None of us are safe from the

criminal acts of madmen we might encounter at any time on the street -

OR from organized, well-financed, well-trained, experienced terrorist

organizations who depend on extremist philosphies and religious zeal for

recruitment and hostile nations for support and/or encouragement.

One of my friends .. a lurker on the Idma List, Colonel (US Army Ret)

Joe Lukitsch, who I served with in combat and peace time, wrote me last

night and reminded me .. " As you know, the multiple " hijacked aircraft

scenarios " we studied to death during the late '60s were rejected as

infeasible. Weapons of Mass Destruction (WMD) including Chemical,

Nuclear & Biological were then the selected/chosen weapons " du jour " .

It is now back to the future! "

Many of us who live outside the USA have seen terrorism up close - many

times - two of my close friends and co-workers were targeted and killed

by the Marxist Revolutionary Left Group here in Turkey .. John Gandy in

1993 and Bobby Mozelle in 1994. I was one of many others on their hit

and it considerably restricted my freedom. One feels like a squirrel on

a limb on opening day when placed in such a situation. That terrorist

group was eventually neutralized through aggressive action of security

forces - there is no way to negotiate with idealists or fanatics. Those

of us who live outside the US are accustomed to and accept the necessary

restrictions of our freedoms as they're designed to ensure our security.

America is an open society - an outstanding environment for the movement

of those who would harm us. It is more difficult for terrorists to move

about in the more " restricted " countries outside the USA. Americans

often criticize such restrictions as they didn't jive with our ideas of

what a open, free and democratic society should be. I have personally

observed my countrymen grousing about the extreme security checks they

were exposed to in MANY foreign countries. But now the citizens of my

country will learn that it's impossible to ensure their security without

inconveniencing them. This inconvenience will become routine in time.

I was so proud to see the bi-partisan attitude in the US Congress and

the spontaneous singing of patriotic songs by these officials. I was

proud to see the photos of the black and white, Asian and Spanish and

other racial groups in New York helping each other - there were some

great scenes on CNN and it made me even more proud to be an American -

and that is difficult to do as I am already a hard-core patriot.

We now have the support of all the civilized countries of the world ..

and the lip service support of those who fear we will reach out and

touch them for their covert support of terrorists. We now have the

agreement of the civilized nations that we must retaliate to show the

world that support of terrorism will not be allowed to go unpunished.

We must preempt such actions as we would those of a mad dog. There will

be no tears shed when the backward Taliban government is destroyed - and

it will be destroyed. They've infuriated the civilized world with their

treatment of the educated, the women and the history, art, monuments and

archieves in their country. Even the other radical Islamic regimes were

against the actions of these madmen.

I often hear people proclaim that we are one world - we are all brothers

and sisters. If this is really true, are we not then our brother's and

sister's keepers? Should we not step in to protect them in cases where

their liberties and dignities are being ridden over by the madmen of the

world? The departure of the Taliban and Osmani bin Laden will not be a

subject of negative discussion - the civilized world agrees they must be

neutralized. Mad dogs cannot live beside civilized people! Barbarians

cannot be allowed to snuff the lives of innocents when they wish to!!

We must and we will retaliate - we are hunting down the enemies of

civilized mankind. There is no just cause to be gained from attacks

against innocent civilians - the entire international community is now

going through a period of looking closely at what they've done and can

do to erradicate support of terrorism - terrorism is NOT a military

action - it is a criminal action. We are saying this was an ACT OF WAR!

In a sense, even though it was a criminal act, it is the beginning of a

concerted effort to make war against international terrorists and those

countries that support them.

I believe we will be proud of the actions America and the civilized

world takes in the next few days. We will avenge the many innocent

victims of this carnage - and avenge the many heroic firefighters and

policemen/women who knowing the dangers facing them, went in harm's way

to save others - and gave their all!
