Guest guest
So far not a whole lot of info is coming from the radio. This is to be expected due to the confusion and the fact that it takes time to sort everything out. The World Trade Center has been attacked via the crashing of 2 hijacked planes (carrying 150 people) into the towers, both of which have collapsed. A plane has crashed near the Pentagon. A fire is reported at the Washington Mall, and the White House and CIA building has been evacuated. A car bomb was detonated at the State Department building in Washington, not a lot of details are coming through on the news about this. Another airplane crash has been reported in Somerset, PA near Pittsburgh, but I haven't heard much yet on this. THE UNITED STATES HAS BEEN LOCKED DOWN. No planes are allowed to take off from any airport. All planes in the air at the time of the crashes were ordered to land ASAP. International flights coming into the US were/are diverted to Canada. Airports are being closed and sealed off. All federal buildings have been closed until further notice and employees have been sent home. People who live in the area surrounding Washington DC (especially Virginia) have been advised to evacuate to safer areas. In case you're wondering why, there are a number of federal facilities, including those connected to the intelligence field, located in Virginia. As can be expected, the phone lines are tied up across the country. If you have friends or family in NYC or Washington DC, please be patient in trying to get through. There are millions of people living there, people trying to make calls in and out, plus all the emergency calls. Those of you in major metro areas can expect these events to affect your city. In addition to airports and federal buildings being closed, many other major businesses and major business centers are being closed. Here in Atlanta, a LOT of businesses and centers are closing. In NYC, the Stock Exchange and many other big businesses are closing. The important thing now is to stay calm, keep up with news reports so that you know what is going on and if anything you absolutely need to be aware of happens. Do not plan on going anywhere in major metro areas. Atlanta is gridlocked, as is NYC and Washington. I'm sure other major metro areas are beginning to gridlock as people panic and head home, plus as airports are closed there are thousands having to find their way back home or to hotels. On a personal note, Michael's (my fiance) sister is in NYC for training with her employer. Michael's mother is going bonkers right now, and probably will until she hears from Julie. Julie isn't expected to have been in the WTC area, but we're praying that she's okay. There are a lot of people who need prayers today. An untold number have been injured or killed. We won't know exactly how many for days because of the time it will take to dig through the rubble. Many are suffering because of loved ones who have been injured or killed, thousands more are worried and scared. Fear and panic is running rampant in the US, as are emotions of saddness and grief. Please remember to to stay calm and try not to panic. Be patient in trying to reach friends and loved ones. It will take time for calls to go through.
