at a farmers market i did in the mountains yesterday.

he has 4 kinds of honey, clover, cats claw (a drak rich and creamy

honey), dandelion (a light honey, not so sweet, if you can say that

about honey ;) and honeydew (which is another dark and unique tasting

honey). it was $4.00 for a 1 lb jar and $7.00 for a 2 lb jar.

i got a 1 lb jar each of the cat's claw and honeydew. i never tasted

a honey like either of those and i'm one of those honey freaks in the

world :) i can ceratinly pick up a jar from him if anyone wants any.

also, he told me i can get the beeswax from him - no matter what

quantity for $4.00 a lb - with impurities in it - y'know hive stuff,

like bees and comb, etc.... (he told me the removal process), or

$5.00 a lb. with the impurities removed. he is local, so i won't have

to pay for shipping to me, just shipping to you - YAY!!!!

but lois and i still have to talk to another local bee keeper soon

(its that time of year) and we'll see what his offerings are.

i just wanted to keep y'all posted.

Chris,

Put me down for two of the 2 lb jars of the honeydew honey - my goal this autumn is to make honey wine.

I'd also be interested in cosmetic grade bee's wax.

i'll contact him via e-mail and see whan i can meet up with him again

to get the hooney, he lives in ward. he told me the wax would be

about 3 weeks from now if i was interested. so you want the beeswax

without the dead bees and parts of the hive floating in it, huh? *LOL*

how much are you thinking? i want to get an idea of what i should

order. i want to stock up for the whole year - till next september if

i can.

I'm interested in honey and wax too. Either the regular, or the refined stuff. Whichever is easiest. If no one else is buying the regular, I don't mind paying another dollar a pound to clean it myself:)

A rough estimate for me would be about two pounds of each honey, and about four to five pounds of refined wax, or eight of the regular.

I'm thinking 2 lbs on the bees wax, if it keeps well that is. If not, just one.

PS - you also mentioned someone had tins, right? My whole idea is to make lip balms and salves. Recipes are welcomed!

I'm thinking 2 to 4 lb unrefined stuff (because it's cheaper LOL), so

count me in for 3 lb, I'll update ya in a while - have to check my

finaces and the number of things I want to do with the beeswax.

The best thing that has worked for me is to use an ice pick. I heat up the ice pick in hot water, and poke lines of holes like perforations around where I want to break off. It goes easier if I do small chunks. Then from there I can usually break through the piece. Sometimes it takes some extra holes in places. But this seems to work better than a hot knife. It goes a little quicker too. As for getting wax everywhere, cover your counter in foil or even big cookie sheets. When you are all done you can put them in a cooling oven and it will remelt the wax together into a usable chunk you can save. I like foil, because I can put it in the oven for about ten minutes, and then roll the warm wax off the foil into a tube. Then I can just slices off chunks of the tube when I need it.

The best way I have found to break any block wax is using a hammer and chisel.
