Guest guest
Sooner or later this quandary will have to be overcome by TCM practitioners: Does one nominate TCM disharmonies by WM nomenclature? The end of the diagnostic process in TCM is a disharmony, one from some 20 or 30 recognized over centuries, with marginal variations. If one labels a disharmony as cystic fibroma, or a benign lipoma, which are all WM labels, what kind of justice does one do to the patient? In this and allied forums one sees a flurry of WM names, and the request to share experiences of what worked best. The question is in the realm of WM, the answer in TCM. In WM one ends up with a set of recognizable symptoms, macro and micro pathology, and biochemistry profiles. In TCM one ends up with a 5 E disharmony, or an 8 parameter profile, none of which can be encouched in WM diagnostic terms. Whither TCM? Dr. Holmes Keikobad MB BS DPH Ret. Guest guest
Hi Dr. K! It is my impression that each WM illness may have several TCM differentiations, but when a patient comes in and says he/she has " diabetes or some other WM disease " I write down " diabetes or some other WM disease " as the principal complaint on the intake form and get on with my life without bothering to make a big deal about it. On the next form, which I call " 4 pillar examination " I use TCM terminology for my impressions, treatment principles and treatment protocols. That said, there are some people licensed in this profession who do not have a clear idea of TCM syndromes and their differentiation and for all intents and purposes practice as though they were MDs or Chiropractors with a 200 hour " acupuncture " course and certification.
