I don' know for sure, but the system could be protecting itself from aspects of computer logic which can cause problems. Imagine group A, which has a member email address to group B, and also group B has as member email address to group A. Then a message sent to A will be automatically forwarded to B, which will automatically forwarded it to A, which will automatically forwarded it to B, ad infinitum (literally). That's called infinite recursion, which happens at times to people developing software. If this were possible ( didn't protect against it), someone like a hacker could set up a whole nest of groups linked recursively, then send one message and send the software spinning off endlessly and probably bogging down overall performance. Just to get something going, someone might have to manually " forward " the digest each day to the other group. One might consult with about other possibilities. But they also may not be to hot for an idea that bypasses the necessity of being bombarded by their in-line commercial advertising.
Guest guest
Yes Chris, i do see the logic in that. I'll ask and see what they come up with, although i won't hold my breath. I'll let the group know how it proceeds. Guest guest
Guys, The only other way is to physically save the sub-inbox weekly as a text file and upload it in the Files. It would probably be easier to do that provided it was done regularly and each file had a one day 'overlap' to ensure there was nothing left out. Cheers, Sammy. If you have the files with overlap, it is is very easy to write a script on Linux to remove messages from the second file which are in the first one. Just a thought, in case you were going to automate this. -- Jamie
Guest guest
It sounds like a good idea to prevent excess duplication but a bit of overlap provided reader continuity and a security check (reassuring) nothing has been missed out. Actually this could be started right away. All you need is a folder of suitable name and an agreed way of labelling files, and an agreed interval. I'd suggest 1,2,3, 4 & 5th weeks of each month with a day overlap each side of each week. Alternatively you could have monthly files but they would be kind of long. Alternatively, members could take it in turn to upload an arbitrary period felt particularly valuable or interesting because of the threads contained. If the Linux script could be written to standardise arbitrary size files with a date stamp + range and small overlap for secure continuity that would make life simple for the rest of us ;-) Sammy. Guest guest
Hi Jamie! Do you have such a script? If so, please post it. Thanks.
