Guest guest
Hi everyone, I wanted to comment on I believe it was ' email about influencing medicine through medical residents/students. I work for a teaching hospital of northwestern university's med school and we have residents rotate through our integrative outpatient clinic (currently it is an elective rotation). part of their rotation is to recieve treatment as well as observe our practices. This has been most powerful and has helped them to appreciate the imbalance of the " established " medical system and the effects of their training on their own health. Several of them have continued on as patients beyond their rotations with us and several continue to refer patients. This is a powerful way to influence the future of medicine, I believe (ideally it will become mandatory for all residents) And in response to the idea of using only western concepts/scientific language to describe what we do - I feel this is incomplete. I think it is crucial to be able to explain it in western/scientific terms AND ALSO describe TCM in terms of QI, balance, etc. In my experience people -even medical residents do understand these concepts intuitively and need to accept that there is more than one paradigm. We need to be bilingual in this respect. Nicole
Guest guest
Nicole, This is exciting news. Residents, yet. In SF there is an exchange between WM students and CM students just in its infancy. Your situation sounds far more developed. Congratulations!
