My name is Bridget, and I am a new student of Tai Chi and Acupressure/Tuina in

Atlanta, Georgia. I have been a healer in some form or another all of my life,

though

never in a formal capacity. (It's kind of hard with an Econ degree after all!)

Bear with me, this is where the story gets odd.

After many years of futzing about, I took it as a sign (so to speak) that it was

time to

start learning in earnest when my sister married an international Tai Chi

champion.

Though living in San Francisco, he insisted on pre-screening/selecting a Tai Chi

instructor for my son, who was starting martial arts.

The man he found is Master Yingzhang Wang of Norcross, GA. Master Wang began

studying Tai Chi at age 4 and Acupressure/Tuina at age 7 in his village in

China. He

never attended a formal school, but was taught by four different masters. He

jokes

that he was certain he didn't know anything until he came to America and saw

what

was passing for Acupressure here. I stare and stare at him and still don't have

a clue

how old he is. I'm guessing maybe 65? (I tried doing some cultural revolution

calculations one day)

My first day of Tai Chi, he looked at me and said, " you need to come to

acupressure

seminar " . I ignored him. Every week, the same thing. For months. Finally, I

went.

For two hours I felt as if I was being reminded of something I already knew,

rather

than trying to absorb a billion bits of new information. When I told him this,

he just

smiled and said " of course " .

As I am not in an organized " school " , but rather learning in a non-formal

manner, I'll

be doing a lot of reading, and will probably be lurking the boards and

periodically

asking questions about other peoples experiences. I also hope to encounter

others

who are also learning the arts from someone who studied in a strictly " passed

down "

manner.

As Master Wang says, anyone can learn acupressure, not everyone can do it -

healers

are born, not made.
