Guest guest
Hi all, I would appreciate feedback from any and all. Yesterday, revising through A Manual of Acupuncture by Peter Deadman & Mazin Al-khafaji with Kevin Baker. I noted that the Outer Bladder points were not where I expected them to be. I was shocked on 2 accounts One that I had not noted the discrepancy before. and two That I doubted my own experiences. I happen to regard the 'Manual' highly as it is extremely well written and graphically descriptive. on getting to my clinic I looked at point reference guides from two colleges in the Uk. and also in 'Acupuncture a comprehensiv e text' by the Shanghai College of traditional Medicine. All 3 disagree with the point location for 'The Manual' I have no reason to doubt the quality of the information as supplied in 'The Manual' yet they can not all be right. 'The Manual' places the Outer BL Pts., in line with the lower border of the relevant Thoracic. Were as all my other sources place them in the same intercostal gap as the back Shu points. For example up till now if I wanted to find BL-50 I would feel under the last Rib for the location. However in 'The Manual' this is BL-51. This is such a major discrepancy that I would appreciate any info. many thanks salvador
Guest guest
No need to be alarmed Salvador.. In principle you're right, the points on the outer bladder route are situated in the same intercostal gap as the back Shu points, as you say. The discrepancy is the result of bad graphical presentation and bad verbal description. Sometimes, the intercostal gap is in almost straight line, especially in thin people, but the drawings in Peter's book show the ribs cage in somewhat 3-D exaggerated pose. Why not Email Peter Deadman and ask him to correct this on his next edition?
