Learning Chinese - Integrated Chinese

Hi Sammy,

 

The Integrated Chinese (IC) program is great because it teaches all

components of the language together (understanding, speaking, reading

and writing) from the beginning, rather than focusing on oral

language first, then moving on to the written.

 

You'll need to get the books first and you'll also need to decide

whether you want to start with simplified or traditional characters

for the first year's materials, as there are two different sets for

the first year that you can start with. The second year of IC

includes both simplified and traditional characters throughout. Of

course, there are also learning tapes (and now a CD), for audio

accompanies both the textbook and workbood. There is also a character

workbook for writing practice that is very helpful.

 

There are quite a few materials on the net for use with the IC

program, many which are offered through various Universities and

Colleges, such as USC, UC Davis, and University of Hawaii. Quite a

few of the schools require that you be a current student with an

account and password to access the materials (as required by the

publisher), but there are still some great resources that I found

through a little more digging.

 

The community college where I'm taking Chinese is under major State

budget cuts, and their resources for students are VERY limited right

now, so I've really been grateful for the extra materials I've found

online. I hope you find them equally useful.
