Guest guest
Hi everyone I have just started treating a patient with arthritic knees. She is taking beta-blockers and calcium channel blockers. Can anyone tell me what actions these have on the organ systems as I'm sure they are masking the underlying patterns. Thanks Mark Burrows
Guest guest
Dear Mark, Beta blockers are very cold and cause Spleen Qi Cold & Xu -> Damp -> Phlegm and are regularly the actual cause of the arthritis (or asthma ....). You can treat the arthritis as it presents at this time in TCM diagnosis. The " underlying patterns " will be rather the problem for which she was prescribed the blockers; when you start to address that correctly you can wean her off the drugs.
