Guest guest
Hi All, & Hi Ken, Ken summarised key points [re marketing]: > Know your subject. This translates in real world experience as > devotion to lifelong learning...not in word but in actual > behavior. Agreed 100%. The more one studies and discusses with trustworthy peers, the more one learns. Medical learning is indeed a life-time's work; some would say the work of several lifetimes. But one needs to prioritise WHAT to study. NO HUMAN, even studying 24 hours/d, 7 days/week, every week, could possibly read, let alone assimulate all that is written on conventional medicine, not to mention complementary therapies. Medline, alone, abstracts circa 800,000 new articles each year. > The public is remarkably savvy at knowing quality in sources of > information and services, even though lots of people get misled > lots of the time. Agreed. You can fool some of the people some of the time ... > And in all marketing, promotion, etc., never say anything that > isn't true. If you don't know whether or not something is true, > don't say it in the course of promotion and marketing. Ken In my experience, the more one admits to NOT being sure, the more one's clients respect that honesty. But one must have a fall- back situation, either to refer the case if one is not sure, or check the books/databases to find a working answer. IMO, patient, sensitive communication the KEY to a successful therapist-client relationship. One must listen carefully, ask questions relevant to the info received, be open and sympathetic and explain one's thinking processes. What clients do NOT receive from conventional doctors and therapists is TIME. Be prepared to give time, at least until you know the background of the client fairly well. Happy, satisfied clients are the best advertisement that a therapist can get.
