Guest guest
Dear Newsgroup The following message text was ask by a practitioner friend of mine. He would welcome any relevant responses to the questions he asks. Thanks in advance Persis Message Text: Has anyone got any views on this one...it's a recurring dilemma for me!!! Husband Wife imbalances: I have seen several women with what seems to be the opposite H/W pulse picture (eg: right pulses much much more deficient than left pulses) - all of them have been in some type of severe pain (spinal especially) for some time and one recently lost her husband. At college we learnt what amounts to Worsleys view from 1980's onwards (that a male or female with stronger pulses on the right amounts to H/W imbalance), but prior to the 1980's Worsley was saying the opposite which was in keeping with Li Shi-Zhen's view (pg: 501 - 503 in Leon Hammers pulse book): " Both men and women have a slight yin-yang imbalance which is reflected as a slight difference between the right and left pulses. The left is yang and the right is yin. Men have more yang qi. So, provided their qi is well regulated, their left hand pulse is stronger. Women have more yin blood. In women, provided their qi is well regulated, their right hand pulse is stronger. " I feel I should be observing and making a distinction between male and female 'normal' pulses and respecting that a H/W imbalance in a male manifests differently than a H/W imbalance in a female* So in the case of my patients presenting with this 'reverse H/W' pattern, would it be wise to pull energy over to the right hand side using the same methodology we use for dealing with the H/W pattern we learnt at college? - eg: use fire points on the earth channel/lung channel etc to pull energy from the left over to the right? These patients have made great progress with almost purely TCM-based TX, but their pulses are still very much imbalanced and I feel that until the relative strengths between left and right sides are more even, their deepest underlying need has not been addressed. * One final thing - if we are respecting the fact that the balance of yin and yang is different between male and female, would needling yin points on the right side and yang points on the left side for women (reverse for men) be a helpful treatment technique?
