Guest guest
Hi Mark, I am not the moderator per say just giving a lending hand to the moderator whom is in the mist of his final end of year exams . If it is your first letter some things behind the scene should have happen... one you post to the moderator asking for a request to join, two the second sending a introductory letter to the list stating your background in TCM and / or experience with TCM patient or otherwise... It is most advisable to do the above as to avoid confusion and irritation. This list is one of the best with regard to TCM and we discuses highly versatile topics and the list has had no major problems with spamers due to the above procedure... Once the moderator has approved you and you have introduced your self properly looking forward to hear from you. To prove yourself genuine Mark, please give some indication where you are coming from. What are you marketing ? Pyramids sales of some sort ? Trying to muscle in on this growing field of interest ? Marketing and advertising is the same thing that took conventional medicine out of the hands of doctors and compounding pharmacists and into the greedy clutches of the pharmaceutical companies and insurance agencies. Better put your cards on the table I think. I would be very much interested to hear what forms of the above have been most successful for current practitioners. I have done much research on the web and have read 100kacupuncture amongst others. However, I think the personal experiences of people at the " sharp " end would be of great benefit to myself and many others that are either just starting out in practice or will be doing so in the future. Thanks in advance Mark

Guest guest
Sammy This is not spam. I am a newly qualified acupuncturist and am asking people, that have obviously much more experience than myself, what they have done in order to grow their own business and get more patients. At no time did I offer to sell anyone anything or ask them to get involved in any type of scheme, be it pyramid or otherwise. This is a genuine post from someone that is taking his first steps in the acupuncture world and would rather avoid wasting my limited resources trying to attract patients in ways that do not work. I hope this is clearer. Mark Chinese Medicine , <ga.bates@v...> wrote: > Unless I am mistaken this is a spam. To prove yourself genuine Mark, please > give some indication where you are coming from. Guest guest
With all due respect to all parties involved, I do not see where Mark has missed the mark. He states this is the first time to address this list. He is courteous and signed his post. What else could one ask for? If we are looking for spam, then I think the post on sound healing qualifies. No one seemed to care. Fernando Dean Lloyd <acutone@a...> Sun Sep 21, 2003 7:29 am Re: late intro HI, just a heads up about a technique called Acutone (www.acutone.com) using frequencies that match the levels of tissue and all meridians. This enhances the acupuncture and can be used without needles also. Not new age but ancient Chinese Medical and Tone theory. Guest guest
Hello to everyone I live in the Sout East of England, having recently moved from the South West, where I trained at the South Western College of Oriental Medicine. I am about to start work in a local clinic and hope to build this in a reasonably short period of time. I have been following the posts on this site recently and am constantly impressed by the quality. Many of the other members have obviously worked very hard at improving their knowledge over the years. I hope that I will, in time, be able to make a worthwhile contribution myself. Guest guest
Mark, I'm not the official welcomer, but since you managed to set off a controversy simply by saying hello, I thought I'd take a sec and say Hi...and Welcome to the party. Many years ago I worked as a marketing and media consultant and I think that your question gets at a very important dimension of the subject and, obvioursly the professional practice. How do we effectively represent ourselves to the public? Good darn question. I recommend you read a book called Positioning: The Battle for Your Mind by Ries and Trout. It's probably twenty or even thirty years old by now, but its principles remain sound. The most basic principle I can think of though that underlies all effective marketing, particularly of professional or expert services or consultation is: Know your subject. This translates in real world experience as devotion to lifelong learning...not in word but in actual behavior. The public is remarkably savy at knowing quality in sources of information and services, even though lots of people get misled lots of the time. And in all marketing, promotion, etc., never say anything that isn't true. If you don't know whether or not something is true, don't say it in the cours of promotion and marketing. Anyhow, thanks for bringing the subject up and good luck in your new adventure. Ken PS. By the way, we've been talking about the work of Paul Unschuld lately, particularly on another, apparently loosely affiliated list, Chinese Herbal Medicine; and Paul's got some Chinese manuscript material that includes advice from physicians as to how to effectively scam their patients. Marketing has been on the mind of practitioners of traditional Chinese medicine for some time it seems. As you see, just the mention of the word gets the yang qi plucked up and people begin to act to protect the exterior where a new agent has entered muttering, " Marketing... " So it's good that you bring it to our attention, as it is a critical aspect of professional life.

Guest guest
Thanks Ken It wasn't my intentional to raise anyones Yang qi, or anything else for that matter, but I must admit it has made me chuckle. Well at least raising things up and stirring things round relieves the old stagnation. I shall certainly do my best to learn for life and know my subject. This marketing issue is such a big subject in itself and possibly it is something that doesn't really get covered during training, certainly on my course it was only covered very superficially. I know that I have chosen an exciting future for myself, I can only hope that I can do it justice. Umm perhaps not only hope, but make damn sure that I do it justice. Thanks again Mark Chinese Medicine , " kenrose2008 " <kenrose2008> wrote: > Mark, > > I'm not the official welcomer, but since you > managed to set off a controversy simply > by saying hello, I thought I'd take a sec > and say Hi...and Welcome to the party. > > Many years ago I worked as a marketing > and media consultant and I think that your > question gets at a very important dimension > of the subject and, obvioursly the professional > practice. > > How do we effectively represent ourselves > to the public? > > Good darn question. > > I recommend you read a book called > Positioning: The Battle for Your Mind > by Ries and Trout. Guest guest
Hi Mark, glad to have you aboard. You can go a number of things. Firstly, write to all the local GP's telling them of your services and what you can treat. Make a list as their often ignorant of what acupuncturists can do. Secondly, get yourself in the free papers like Thomson and www.upmystreet.com Then you can speak to your local free newspaper and try and get them to do an article on you. you can also put your phamplet in the local clinics, gyms and hairdressers, etc. These are all relatively cheap ways of getting patients, there are others but they'll take money. Hope that helps... Attilio --- In Chinese Medicine , " mark_burrows_01 " <markburrows@s...> wrote: > Sammy > > This is not spam.
