Guest guest
Yes Sharon and Doc Was just on the telephone with a person who has a qualified education in tcm ap. since 2 years, and she has not begun her own practice yet. She said she knew many from her own course that was in the same situation, still insecure in making the diagnosis, still a little afraid of needling or insecure in how to set up the business/practice. One can say it is a lack in the education... that internship should be a part of the education or at least an option.. that business management also lacked in this education. I am glad you say this is the same for MD's. I think in Sweden at least the MD's has that in their education.. 1 year of internship.. at least. In sweden there are not so many people to go to to be in internship. I will set up a program this autumn for acupuncturists who have an education but no practice.. and I see that internship is maybe the major key in this.. Thanks Vanessa, Seems to me Sharon hit it on the head. Even MDs -who have a more extensive and intensive education- need a period of internship and Residency that lasts for years before they are ready for a private practice. IMHO -gleaned from much observation- no student is ready to practice on their own when they first graduate. That is why i have in fact been a mentor to dozens of recent grads and have over the years taken about a dozen into my practice for a few years as a type of externship. They are getting paid pretty good and their jobs to get the students apart of all what is behing TCM in practice and knowledge. If you think there is a special need to explain nd support the sutdents in this waking up to all around TCM and bussines , that tells me that schools are lacking in interest in what students are concerned> Vanessa < Sharon >If I was inclined to pursue promoting acupuncture, > then I would focus on > supporting new graduates in their practice of AP, > their on-going education > to expand their knowledge and practice styles, help > them set up their > business skills and their people skills, as well as > help them achieve better > help through therapy for themselves.
