Guest guest
Wow, many question Sharon. I guess my english is to inadequate to understand how I can answer some of your questions so I will try to respond with my own thoughts on scarcity. Some of them are inspired from the 10 year I worked with The hunger Project (www.thp.org) in its initial phase in the 80's. Regarding scarcity, I do think it goes deep and that is has been a reality just a 100 years ago to modern society, and to still are to large local areas or societies on the planet. I also think it is primarily connected to food, as scarcity (real) of food is fatal. In modern times it was not until the late 20's that some countries had a standard of living that resulted in an IMR less then 50. The last 30 years or so we've had a bigger production of food than consumption. Big amounts of food are nowadays destructed to keep the prices up, or used politically to keep people in dependence. Food is also overconsumed in consumption/capitalist-powered countries as most visible in US. (One scarcity myth that still exist in this area; many " scientific " people STILL think that we lack the technology to produce sufficient amounts of food. It so full of rubbish!!! and is probably a myth hold in place to supports the ongoing unessecary research in this subject and to avoid the truth: the questions of who has the means and the power) Being of such a vital importance, food is connected to survival and when we are small something as vital as food to our survival is LOVE and PHYSICAL TOUCH. So many children have been deprived of this that ... oh... (hard to bring up when getting emotionally connected to that..(We work with that question by promoting natural birth and mothering, a film soon in english we hope, when we've found the funding)). And in many childrens upbringing in modern society their parents haven't got time for them.. Jesus!!! Society requires adults to go to workplaces where the children cannot come along (!) Society creates institutions for children where they learn to obey an authority, (your coming boss) to be on time (really bad if you come late!!! production may be halted!!) and other demeaning society/industry/biginstitutions-entraining " Time is scarce, love is scarce, money is scarce, intelligens is scarce, health....... " and finally: YOU are not good ENOUGH, (so shut up and obey) You don't have ENOUGH, (so what you come with is always lacking and not worth looking at) You are not beautiful ENOUGH, (So buy this product, and this, and this or go hide yourself) You are not healthy ENOUGH (so buy this product or activity) You are not intelligent ENOUGH so we as allopaths can talk over your head in latin (see we were right, you don't even understand what we say.. stupido...) and you are only supposed to just buy this drug and shut up. by the way we only have 5 minutes for you ,with this background for being it is normal (not natural) with a " watch your step, fight on your own, survive and look out for your enemies " - attitude. And Richard.. IMO the true " enemies " out there are really sad and lacking people, money and power being their drive- maybe the myth of scarcity is so profound within them... Solutions many I guess but it must start with one and one and one, you and I, in our hearts.. connected to the " truths " .. One can take a cardiogram 8 feet away from a person. The magnetic field of the heart is up tp 5000 times greater than the brain so I am sure that the transformation of these myths when first happened in our own hearts, the power can expand and entrain other hearts and other hearts...... That's a really interesting thought Holger on the widespread myth of scarcity. Do you think if only acupuncturist with a four year degree minimum could perform acupuncture that our fear of scarcity of paying patients would change? Do you think that if we had a wonderful mentoring/internship model after graduating and that we could learn how successful clinics are set up and managed that we would grow beyond our fear of scarcity of paying patients? Or does our fear of scarcity go deeper, some primeval need to compete? Do you think after all of this legal 'cornering' of the market for acupuncturist only, that we might turn on different styles of AP and say Worsley is better than TCM; that TCM is better than Toyohari; that Manaka is better than Worsley etc? Do you think we would seek to legislate that only one kind of AP could be taught and practiced? cheers Sharon - Holger Wendt Chinese Medicine Monday, September 08, 2003 5:52 PM Re: Re:_TCM_-__Re:_TCM_-__Re:_TCM_- _Re:_TCM_- _Re: IMO the basis for this enemy/threat is a widespread myth of scarcity A myth that seems to exist in so many context, be that of money, of knowledge or love and in this case maybe fear of being compared with you - a doubting on his own skill Holger > He sees me as his enemy, or at least as a threat, I > think. Guest guest
Wow, right back to you Holger! I was thinking along the lines that people feel a lack of ...whatever... food ....love ...opportunity ...acceptance etc, I guess this depends on how much of your basic needs are already met..... Then people may the find a reason to explain that emptiness, eg I don't have a job because of too many migrants or I am white, black, brindle, female, male, too old, don't have the right car etc I was thinking that many practitioners fail at making a decent living in practice and that in looking around for a reason to explain that they may find something or someone to attack or blame. Your brief is much more about real lack of basics for survival. I also wonder, that in general in a consmer society the art of consumption is the engine to the economy. And that we are 'educated' to seek gratification to fulfill our emptiness.... " I'll be happy when..... " of course when you get the ..... filled in, the emptiness often remains so their is a new attachment made to another thing to fill the emptiness.... Then there is the consumption to show off one's affluence and to which strata of society one belongs. But ....you probably have to have a full stomach to get to even think about this level of scarcity....although tribal markings are I suppose along similar lines.
