Hello Sharon , this theory doesn't work many times. History shows.

The best is to get it straight.

WHo can practice and how many hours you need to be save practicing to the

public.

When we were students as today....we were sold a bill of goods that we will

have a bright future because of the advancement....but I say that WE must

MAKE

our own bright future otherwise there is none.

Well said Richard! I have noticed to that, as Anand said the situation as

in Australia, just a few % of students become practitioners, almost the same

seems to be the case in Sweden. I guess some students learn TCM for their

own spiritual needs, just because it gives reason and context to so much in

life, but some believe they invested enough when done with the study and

when there are more work to do and some rather tough, they fall back into

their old profession.

Hi Vanessa,

I am uncertain what you mean by 'best is to get it straight', did you want

to explain?

If I was inclined to pursue promoting acupuncture, then I would focus on

supporting new graduates in their practice of AP, their on-going education

to expand their knowledge and practice styles, help them set up their

business skills and their people skills, as well as help them achieve better

help through therapy for themselves. I would want to make them the best, so

far in front of those who want to dabble on the side with AP, that it just

wouldn't matter about those who want to dabble.

I would also spend money on advertising/educating the public as to what a

'real' acupuncturist can offer.

I would also seek to teach those non-acupuncturists to become acupuncturist,

I would offer to make them good practitioners of acupuncture rather than try

to stop them. This might be one way to make my enemy my friend. I suspect

that many non-acupuncturists doing short workshops rarely use their AP. I

may be wrong of course.

As far as legislation goes, this is not my area of inclination, I think more

is to be had in changes of attitude than in changes of law... but that is

just my bent. Others find their calling to make legislation changes and

then to enforce such changes.

I have an as yet an unqualified acupuncture practitioner practicing just up

the road from me. He charges perhaps 1/3 of what I charge and we met at a

Japanese weekend workshop and travelled together the next day, he said " Do

you think there is enough work for both of us here? " ... I said " Yes, you

are a bloke for starters and that will appeal to some, you do main stay

Chinese herbs and I do not. I think there will be some you are better able

to help, than I. "

He sees me as his enemy, or at least as a threat, I think. People who see

enemies, always see enemies be that outside of the profession or from other

practitioners of the same or other modality, IMO.

Regards,

Sharon
