Guest guest Posted September 5, 2003 Report Share Posted September 5, 2003 We have two kinds of acupuncture and the TCM acupuncture assiciations do everything they can to stress the differences, the distinction between tcm acupuncture and state health care weekend course trigger point acupuncture. We have the same problem with acupuncture getting a bad reputation when used by non TCM trained doctors or physioterapeuts. I have myself had patients that said acupuncture doesn't work on them because that's how the doctors defend their bad results: They spread the misconception that acupuncture only works on a certain number of patients - 60 - 70 % and that it is mainly for painreduction (or even blocking) as I think they say. My position is I try to teach the distinction and to do as good as job as I can as a TCM practitioner. We are really dependent on the few good teachers we have in TCM acup. in Sweden and we invite other teachers to come and lecture for us. The schools in TCM acupuncture has been around for 12 years and are 3 in number. The education is 3-3,5 years and 1 month in a chinese hospital, so I would say it don't seem to be as thorough as in england with 5 years education and 6 months in china. (as I beleive it is) Some of us who are trained acupunturists continue their education with english teachers or by going back to china many times and in different places. I do both the traditional system on the body as a whole, and ear acupunture and hand acupuncture. The Korean Hand acupuncture (hand finger = Sooji) is the most paralell system to traditional body acup of all micro systems. It is really like a mini copy with all the 14 meridians and extra meridians and most of the points, so it is for acupuncturists an easy translation. Every rule used in TCM is applicable on the hand and there are of course some advantages, one of them being that you easily can treat points corresponding to Ren 1, Ren 8, Ren 17 etc with both needle or moxa. And that as a selfcare method you can do moxa on the corresponding points to Ren 1, Ren 8, and all the Back shu points. I initiated the education and practice here in Sweden and educatenot omly acupuncturists, but parts of KHA I train physioterapeuts, nurses, massage therapeuts, healthcare terapeuts and doctors. I am stressing the fact that this is only a part of the whole and I am always including TCM-thinking in my lectures. The one-year education I launch in two weeks is a co-work by me and the most stable and respected school in TCM ion Sweden, and the doctor /OM doctor frpm Germany who educates in nortern Europe. Su Jok - Hand feet is invented by a student to the KHA-originator and treats the whole system via feet and hand from several holographic maps, some reminding of old reflex zone maps in modern days mostly known from americans, and some corresponding to the idea of ECIWO, that every long bone contains info from the whole. It is very complex and introduces many other concepts that I personally find not so easy to translate into TCM. It is surely a great method and in Sweden it is introduced since a few years in Stockholm. but when trained already in TCM for several years the KHA method is much easier to learn and to apply, at least I think so.
