Guest guest
Dear Doc, Doc: GUAMAP is not a well funded NGO but instead struggles to raise it's small opperating budget each year. We do not have even a single paid staff member in the states and only one paid person in Guatemala . Our first Promotore De Salud to reach a teaching level (Miguel S-G) is paid a stipend for the time he misses from his other work in his own village. Marco: I know every NGO are struggling, this is why I think that if we could pull of some foundational work in education developing an as extensive and in depth course as possible would be paving the way for long term development... For example less say I get run over by a car then the small scale project in the hospital would dissolve on the spot. Thus if we can develop curriculum material (in Spanish and " guest " teachers whenever possible) that would be great because then say in three years to come me getting run over by a car would be less of a problem for the hospital... Thus having an more regular influx of practitioners of Chinese medicine, which could teach us here more advance and different ways of understanding Chinese medicine and hence contributing to long term development, also I would feel less " lonely " .< Actually our volunteers are in no way paid. In the early days i even had to pay all of my own fare and expenses but now we at least provide for food and a plane ticket.
