Last time for this slight off topic topic. If you want to save lives:

Most important is to convince people that things can change- because they will- for better or worse.

Two things would set up a cascade of empowerment and enthusiasm.

One is for each country to adopt the univeral declarationof human rights, enforceable not by the U.N., but by the laws of each country, just as an assault is. The local and international media and populace would have to get involved. This would have side-effects of various use such as the threat of water-rights privatization, that is causing epidemics of cholera,as fresh water is now even more unavailable. Living wages, ecological reporting on resource depletion because of full disclosure, many other potential changes would be possible, for example if people started treating each other fairly, then possibly they would care about the accelerated mass-extinction we are in.

Second is to phase out Chlorine Gas and its by-product use, that fills the 100 most dangerous toxic compounds list. It is found everywhere (if you had a ten mile long train of boxcars full of anything, one drop of chlorine gas is strongly detectable). It would free up 15% or more of global electrical capacity, scince enormous electrical current are blasted thru salt water to create the gas,it is no way natural. Also it would show

people that if they care about a sustainable future, they can make it happen, rather than sheepishly sliding into a demographic winter. The economics involved and the substitions to adopt are spelled out in the book 'Pandora's Poison'.

Indusry will inflate prices, cause shortages -anything -rather than give up their poor management practices. But it isn't a small thing. Twenty some years ago, Jaques Cousteau said everywhere in the ocean he saw waste, so much, that when it finally dispersed, life would be improbable.

To really accomplish anything, just try; . enforce universal declaration of human rights

. phase out chlorine gas and it's production

We spend $650million a year on golf balls. The tropics and the coaral reefs have the greatest density, and diversity of life, and they are dissapearing. Even a temperature degree difference causes an imbalance w epidemics in the coral.

Experts are fighting about which remaining "Charismatic Vertebrates" to invest in.

But like farmed salmon which is not a such a good source of omega oils, or modern agricultureal methods than offer less and less potent vegetables and HERBS, the loss of wildness or wilderness is another future threat, that supplements will need to fill. And if the Pharmacuetical Industry has its way, you'll pay a lot, if you can get them.

Maybe there is nothing we can do. Maybe people will stand each in their own little downstream pasture with a mouth full of cheap vegetation, oblivious that the fence is not only unlocked, but wide open. (Feel the joyful freedom of your spirit, or get free)

Like health care, no different from economics or ecology, if we want a future we have to find and use the best way, not the cheapest.
