Karen:It is

interesting to think of consciousness as something

above awareness. The very act of thinking of it

disallows you from being it. The words that are used

to describe it, separate one from it. So how does one

achieve oneness without striving for it. In my humble

opinion, it is invaluable in the patient/healer

relationship.

Lon: For me, this comes down to natural mind Vs. conditioned mind. Natural

mind is consciousness untainted by ego (the false sense of a separate self).

When one adopts a perspective of no relationship to thought or feelings, then

consciousness itself shines forth uncolored by the implications of self image.

Such pure consciousness is our natural state prior to our interpretations of our

life experience (I am this way and life is this way). This is a state that

can be returned to in an instant by anyone without organic brain damage who is

interested. Its a shocking revelation in fact that consciousness has no limits

in time or space and that it is not a personal attribute. From this

perspective there is no separation with others as one connects immediately to

the

unadorned nature of their own natural mind. Everything else that is not

authentic

(zheng) is stagnation. This is the basis of my own practice. I don't find at all

that words create separation when they are spoken authentically. And, in the

end, this perspective is not one that has to be cultivated but merely chosen.

Well thank you . I have a very thick skin now but was not always so quick with a come back . I was fortunate in that I had a few good friends whose support of me OUTWEIGHED the critics. And I did a home educators course

which happened to pay particular attention to how to handle the critics . Isn't that neat ? One of my requirements for completing the course was pretend letters to family members and friends addressing all manner of criticism of homeschooling !! It sure helped....Mary O
