Guest guest
Below is the reply i received today from the British Acupuncture Council on regulation and the amount of training needed to become an acupuncturist as i'm concerned with the amount of orthodox doctors and nurses practising acupuncture after undertaking a weekend course. Dear Attilio, Thank you for your email regarding regulation. There are no firm dates set for this. The situation at present is that we have polled our members, who would like to move towards regulation. An Acupuncture Regulatory Group has been set up with the support of the Prince of Wales Foundation for Integrated Health and the Dept. of Health. The Herbal Medicine Working Group are also working on similar proposals for their field, and the Government is likely to publish a single document incorporating proposals from both working groups later this year. There will then be a period of open consultation, after which substantive proposals are likely to be put together with a target of passing legislation under Section 60 of the Health Act 1999 in late 2005. If this timetable is achieved, a Register could well be open by 2007/8. The amount of training is also being discussed and nothing finalised yet with regard to levels or standards.
