Lon: Blatantly wrong according to research conducted across all cultures over the last 50 years. Considera tribesmen living in what is left of the amazon (consciousness thats's abouut 40,000 years old), a musleum fundamentalist (10,000 years old), a Roman Cathlioc (2000 yo), a businessman on wall street (french enlightenment- 150 yo), Baba Ram Das (1960's: 40 yo), an holistic/integral thinker (30 yo) or someone with cosmic consciousness (a few now-just a beggining trend for humanity with only a few examples over the last 3 millenia). Do you think these people all have different but equale consciousness *OR* is there evidence of increaseing complexity and refinement thus indicating evolution? Geo:When someone is trying to " embrace another person's anything " beware!!! Lon: A complete avoidance of the issue. You just can't say that there is a single human on the planet more evolved, can you? Everything is different but equale right? I disagree. I see abundant evidence for natural heirarchy and evolution. It's not a questionn of embracing another person's personal attributes. I'm suggesting that there could possibly be another person who, through a combination of their own endowment and effort, has embraced a higher form of consciousness than we have. Your usage of consciousness here is different. You seem to be using it similar to "spirit" or perhaps "mind". Look how I see it: the human world can only be perceived through the senses and the brain. The result of these perceptions is human consciousness. Ah... I think I see what you mean... This consciousness has two manners of working, way of speaking: 1- With the observer as some entity outside consciousness (delusion). 2- W/o the observer, and then all is consciousness and nothing is outside of it. Human consciousness functioning with the separate observer is very similar all over the world for the past thousands of years. It is based on tribalism, or patriotism in our days, instead of arrows bombs, fear, unfulfilled desires, and the drive to be other then one is. What changes is just the object of the fears, desires and worships. For one is money, for the other is god, for the other is cosmic consciousness, or universal mind, etc... Refinement is changing the god of rains to dollars in wall street, changing god to something like universal holistic perspective, stones for rockets. Either one sees the totality of this one movement or doesn't. The problem with all of us, is the we have a glimpse of that impersonal reality or whatever name, and we want more of it, perpetuate it, but that is already thought wanting more - one is back to the rat hole. Can one see that impersonality and not carry it over? It is always new. The moment we name it, talk about evolution towards it, we have already abstracted. We have already turned that glimpse of the real into a mental abstraction. Wouldn't you agree? One must develop the ability to observe all and any event within consciousness. All and every thought - because one single tiny thought may transform the present reality into a mental abstraction "to be achieved in the future"For practitioners, students and those interested in Traditional (TCM.).
