I've noticed that Traditional Medicine includes the spiritual component and natural law. Would it be contradicting if the practitioner does not follow the basic principles of the chinese arts? For example, if there are muslim acupuncturists would they follow the tenets of chinese philosophies? or a christian follow such philosophy?

How would you synthesize such circumstances?

Yehuda,> why ask why?Darn good question. As I was driving in to my officethis morning, I thought of anotherquestion that I think should beraised with respect to this subjectof the influence of Daoism onthe development of medicine in Chinaand on the broader question ofspirituality. This question relates to the statusof terms such as "spirit", "spiritual","religion", "religious", etc.Can we assume that the various "schoolsof thought" such as Daoism, Confucianism,Buddhism, Legalism, etc. were separateand distinct as we think of schools ofthought such as Islam, Christianity,Judaism, and even the various sects andcults within these various religiousmovements? Was it a matter of mutual exclusivity?Or could a traditional Chinese thinkerbe...i.e., consider himself or

herselfto be both a Daoist and a Confucian?A Daoist and a Buddhist? A Confucianand a Buddhist? Or all three? One of the reasons why Unschuld's workis so important is that the detailedclarity he brings to such study allowsus to consider such matters against abaseline of well drawn historical facts. What I meant by "Why?" was "Why dowe care about these things?"KenFor practitioners, students and those interested in Traditional (TCM) ranging from acupuncture, herbal medicine, tuina and nutrition.Membership rules require that you adhere to NO commercial postings, NO religious postings and NO spam.Web site homepage: Chinese Medicine/
